My ISP says I get 15 Mbps download and 2 Mbps upload, and speed tests confirm I do. For sustained flows, I get a solid 15 Mbps when downloading software from Microsoft. So the 15 Mbps is way above anything in the Netflix graph. So, the ISP

A simple resolution for the question of this thread is easy: For now, girls tend to pursue what girls do and know that computer science (CS) is for boys and not part of what girls do. So, girls try to avoid CS in college. When they tr

Sorry, Professor Krugman, you are more of the problem than the solution. Let's start with your: "The financial crisis of 2008 was a teachable moment, ..." Yes it was. Okay. Now, where's the teaching ? Here are three cases of lack of tea

Maybe we're making some progress: So, we started with social graphs, social media, and social search (below I refer to these three as 'social X') and asked the questions about purposes, the utility of social X, and the means to the purposes

Okay, in general, good. Now, for the social Internet , what are the purposes ? E.g., why do 500+ million people use Facebook? Why do so many people use Twitter? Okay, once we have thought about those old cases, assuming the huge amounts

The core of game theory is just the min-max result from von Neumann and Morgenstern. Actually, just as mathematics, linear programming is a slightly stronger subject, and the min-max theorem is a simple consequence of standard results in

Look, the "not nice to try to fool Mother Nature" is easy to understand and nothing to object to: We just admit that we do not know all about women. You'll go along with that, right? If you do actually know all about women, then hurry up

You are missing it, failing to 'get it', running off in unnecessary directions, and flailing away at irrelevancies. It's simple, dirt simple: Here the shortest clear explanation: "The hand the rocks the cradle rules the world.". If you do

You STILL fail to 'get it' on "helping people". I gave the example of social work for the needy. More generally the 'reason' is to hope to get security from praise from the community for the 'good' work done. The work is commonly close t

You need a LOT of help understanding women! By "help people" they do NOT mean anything like what a plumber does! What they mean is more like social work helping the needy. Why? It is important to know, and some of what I wrote provides s
