http://pagekite.net/wiki/Floss/FreedomAndPrivacy/ is what motivates me - PageKite is an attempt to bootstrap a peer-to-peer web where IP addresses don't matter anymore and servers can run literally anywhere, so people can actually self-ho

PageKite is not a localtunnel clone, it is a much bigger concept. Otherwise I wouldn't have founded a company around it. It just happens that the use case for web developers overlaps and that is what folks seem to care about around here. :

Obviously, I am biased, but I use this all the time . It's just so nice to be able to use ssh and rsync and git and all the other standard tools to interact with mobile and virtual devices, no matter what kind of network connection they ha

I don't think Localtunnel can, but PageKite will carry any TCP stream as long as the client knows how to prefix its request with an HTTP CONNECT preamble. This has mostly proven popular for remote administration via. SSH, since most SSH cl

I have this problem now and then. I've begun to treat it as a sign from my subconscious that my code has become ugly and some housekeeping/re-factoring is in order. Sometimes I can push through (e.g. due to a deadline) by picking at indivi

I am living (frugally) off http://pagekite.net/ at the moment. TBH I am not sure it counts as we managed to secure a government grant for building our initial product. We've got a year left of "runway" before we need to either become cash

How can 100,000 pages of anything computer generated be "high quality information"? What are you generating? I admit I am skeptical, but I am also genuinely curious. :-)

If Starter Edition lacks the "easily pirated" feature, then it can't really displace Windows XP in these cases.

This post explains mostly the rationale behind the pricing scheme, which I would love to get feedback on from the HN community. For people who want to see the pricing scheme itself, the link is https://pagekite.net/pricing/

Seems I've been downvoted for an unhelpful answer. :-P The problem isn't the size of each individual resource, it is the total volume of resources. In fact, the small size of web resources makes the problem worse, not better - a local disk

I have one of those fancy networks that can open multiple TCP/IP connections in parallel, whereas my Firefox disk cache lives on one of those crappy old spinning disks which can only do one seek at a time. :-)

I am talking about on-disk cache, not in-memory cache. Being memory constrained means I do not have a large filesystem cache and cannot afford to have it smashed by lots of cache reads/writes. It also means the odds that a cached (on disk)
