Happy birthday! Wouldn't reach for anything else when I need predictability and stability on my system. Here's to forever!

Interesting that they were called "releases" back then. I wonder when it became a "distribution"? Was that word only used by BSD back then?

A bit like how we discovered sticky keys from hammering 'Shift' while playing full screen games on Windows 98. Cost me more than a few lives...

I love that style; takes me back to my youth. I still have a translucent blue extension lead from that era, and it's currently used for my home A/V. That marks over 20 years of service. I also remember Nintendo 64s and their contr

Quite. There is something deeply appealing in making the law much more immediate and accessible to the commons. The labyrinthine system we have today makes me wonder how many people don't bother even when there are genuine disputes and

Do they need telemetry to know this? I could ask around, but I don't think anyone exists who doesn't game and also watch video on the same system. Should Creative also track my listening habits, to determine whether soundcard de

Call me cantankerous but I'd rather UI paradigms were frozen in this era. And it's 90s, not 70s ;)

Read receipts plus typing indicators... too much information! It applies heavy pressure and behind that is the motive to monetise attention. Snapchat is the worst for this; it notifies your recipient once you start typing.

Was IRC ever used privately and internally within the workplace? I'd like to know if anyone did. I only ever used it briefly with forum communities and some older OSS projects. At work, it has only ever been Slack. Some older employees

A few columnists have noted this. Institutions like the police, parliament and the BBC are coasting on their previously-earned reputations. I think the ornate Palace of Westminster gives the political class too much cover, and if they moved

I’d just ask that external observers try to understand the Protestant and Unionist side too. They are often maligned in a simplistic ‘good vs evil’ narrative. You’d be surprised by their hospitality and industry. I’’d never deny that there
