I think the code here is a very good example to get started with Python. It includes some very essential elements for interacting with external websites.

I began thinking single column. The content should be the star of the show. No sidebars or extraneous post metadata that gets in the way of reading. I'm happy to hear you confirm this for me. I've been removing the sidebar from most page

That's a deprecated page. It says 2003 because I rewrote the site in PHP that year and had no dates associated with the scripts prior to that. The download link doesn't work anymore, but I probably still have the file on the server if you

Yes, and you've got such a captive audience with something like mIRC. Back in those days you could write a decent script and instantly get users. Today you've really got to do something special to stand out in the development community.

I've been running an mIRC script site for 16 years. I wonder if you ever posted. You'd recognize my username if you did.

I started an mIRC script site back in 1997. Young developers would email their scripts to me and I would write a very critical review of them. I did this for many months and the site quickly became one of the top IRC sites online. This m

Its a funny idea, but I'm not sure its all that useful. Would probably be better if users could customize their profile page as well.

So ACE editor + GitHub API + Commenting and Liking. It's a very, very simple concept. I think mainly what it has going for it is the limited barrier to entry. I'm just not sure what the long term sustainability is. Mainly its lacking th

I'd like to second this. You just can't ignore the multiplayer aspect of Minecraft. It's huge. Imagine if you put all the young developers on the same server and gave them access to this. They could write scripts to coordinate builds an

I'm pleasantly surprised to see this on the front page. It's a very basic site with very basic concepts. I'm happy to see HN honoring the hard work of a single individual. I used to enjoy sites like Techcrunch and Mashable for this very re

Not only is it realistic, but sometimes necessary. I have a 3yo and have been managing my own product since before he was born. I wouldn't be able to support him if not for it. So to answer your question, yes.

I hate to be the one to say it, but I didn't feel very inspired by this post. I felt the author could have been a little more modest about his accomplishments. It almost read like a resume highlighting his biggest development accomplishme

I also had a lot of respect for Arrington in the early days of Techcrunch, but one event irreversibly changed my opinion of him. I was attending a Techcrunch event in Hollywood some years ago, either 2006 or 2007 if I remember correctly.

There GitHub doesn't offer a way to sort by the number of stars or even see the number of stars.

You can say the same for Twitter, Facebook and Google. There is always the potential for downtime, but users generally don't want to create more accounts. I think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. Plus, sites that use GitHub log

Very good to see more sites utilizing the GitHub API. I do have a few comments to make though. First, you mention badges on the homepage, but this feature isn't complete so I don't think its even necessary to mention it yet. Second, the s

At first I didn't know what the site was about. There is no introduction or tagline to make it clear. And while the layout looks somewhat Bootstrappy it is not responsive at all. It scales very poorly to the point that the navigation slid
