Usually, the UI toolkit (gtk, qt, ...) should take care of the X11/Wayland protocol details. But if the application is doing its own thing or at a lower level (and I guess Firefox qualifies) then that has to be adapted.

Yes, VGA is really not very useful nowadays, but I think it is still a useful (student) project for FPGA beginners that is relatively easy to implement, more exciting than blinking an LED and can be built on for other things. The downside o

It seems to work well as far as I can tell, but my ECP5 unfortunately does not have the serdes. I wanted to stick to the 256 caBGA package to keep the board simple, but there is no variant with serdes... The PLLs, block ram, and other IO wo

One common student project we had used the FPGA to generate a (VGA*) video signal. For example using the onboard ADC to sample a signal and visualise the waveforms. A more advanced idea was to also implement a line-drawing algorithm on the

This is missing boards with Lattice ECP5 FPGAs, which are a nice alternative to the iCE40 FPGAs and are also supported by the open source tools, but also offer more logic, memory, and IO. I only know of the evaluation board from Lattice [0]

The grant has restrictions on how the money can be used and the university takes a sizeable chunk of this (because they can). Then out of generosity and the pure kindness of their heart they might give you back a small chunk of that sum wit

RAM prices went down quite a bit over the last year or so and a 32GB stick of 3200 Kingston RAM with ECC here is now 70-80€, not that much more expensive than non-ECC (about 60€ for 3200, more for faster modules). I replaced 2 of the 16GB E

I think most Zen CPUs support it, but only the PRO APUs. Just upgraded my NAS a while ago after upgrading my main PC and replaced the 2200G with my old 1800X and some ECC ram, but also had to install an old GPU because that one doesn't

The interrupt vector table on x86 sits by default at 0000:0000 and the CPU uses it to handle interrupts and other exceptions by jumping to the address entry corresponding to the event. Entry 0 is division by 0, but there are also entries fo

It is for me. And there is nothing important on my phone so it is not a huge concern. And why do we have to accept that phones just turn into garbage after a few years? Even my old 2009 laptop* still runs an up-to-date OS but my 2016 phone

LineageOS unfortunately dropped support for my Moto G4 relatively quickly after I installed it and it only was supported up to Android 7.1. I have been running an unofficial build of 8.1 ever since, but that is also horribly outdated by now

It would be weird for Valve not to support Linux, given that the Steam Deck runs it. They could of course use Proton to run it, but AFAIR (most of(?)) the previous CS versions also had native Linux support. (Not sure about Mac support in th

One thing to keep in mind is that the particle will likely only lose a 'tiny' fraction of its energy in a collision (the article mentions 2900 TeV for an atom of nitrogen) and it might not even cause a 'hard' collision.
