There was a guy in Berlin who was issuing fake landing clearances recently: https://aviation.direct/en/berlin-falscher-fluglotse-narrte-... It took 6 months to find him, and mind you that that guy was the opposite of c

Why do you think the ATC will hear it? You can use a high gain antenna. Also, you can play some really nasty tricks with things that override the ATC, such as TCAS. Or things that are independent of the ATC, like that faulty engine readings

Yeah but it's terrible for security. Also digital modes work just fine at the same range - I have no problem hearing ADS-B messages from up to 200mi away from my ground level antenna, where the max range is only limited by the curvatur

This industry is ridiculously slow compared to IT. Air traffic comms (both voice AM and text ACARS/VDL) are not only not encrypted, but also crucially not even authenticated. So you can send text messages and speak to any aircraft at a

Yemen is currently split along mostly reasonable lines. It's just not recognized internationally (the most internationally legitimate government has de facto nothing to say in the north nor in the south).

Yeah they opened up diplomatic relations, under Chinese mediation, and so far nothing indicates a breakdown. Plus do not make the common mistake of not noticing agency - Houthi are quite effective political agents with their own agenda.

And before someone says the equivalent of "just blow them off the map" - this will likely be worse than Afganistan. North Yemen has been bombed for close to a decade already by Saudis and others, and the Saudis eventually decided

You can use the Kaitai IDE to visualize various binary formats, down to each byte (or bit). If I remember correctly it has definition files for ext4.

And BTW, we have a market mechanism for this: bankruptcy. Preferably restructuring, not liquidating, though both are useful. Just leave the job and maybe one day the whole thing gets rewired.

What's a version of a ChatGPT? A custom model? With custom pretraining, or just custom fine-tuning? Or just a custom prompt, lol.

RE ChatGPT: I think it's a clever joke highlighting that it is a product that often needs no further integration (to make blockchain powered self driving social AI clouds, or whatever sells best on private equity markets these days).

The shocking part is just how much you can't get away from stupid problems like this. Hilbert believed we could settle these kinds of issues once and for all, the Goedel proved that we can't. So in a sense there isn't anythin
