Look into the JUCE framework for building your own tools. I was using MaxMsp for a while, but would always think to myself "This would be so much easier to accomplish in pure code". So, I started building some bespoke VST's.

This is really impressive. As a former designer, I'm equally excited that people will be able to generate images like this with a prompt, and sad that there will be much less incentive for people to explore design / "photosho

I think those old TUI systems are analogous to learning Vim. At first, you don't wtf is going on. But, the more time you spend with it, the more it's ingrained, and eventually becomes second nature. I've seen many of these sy

Working with FoxPro, I'm assuming. I spent several years dealing with xBase systems, and it was honestly a nightmare. I suppose if you've never used any other language or database, you wouldn't notice. Plus, the bit relative

HN, to me, is unlike anything else. It has a "feed", but it feels more like a forum with one category for threads.

I know someone who had an older Chrysler 300, and you had to take a wheel off to change the battery. Baffling. I'm not much of a mechanic, but the Honda's I've owned over the years have all been easy to work on. At least in t

How many web designer (ie. strictly HTML + CSS) roles are out there anymore? Anytime a position is posted with "HTML and CSS" in the requirements, you can almost guarantee a Javascript framework of some sort is in there as well.

Although this article references the 90's, it reminded me of the truly vibrant web design scene of the early 2000's. I was a graphic design (print work back then) student / early in my career at the time. Sites like k10k, New

When I worked in design we used to have a big book of color swatches for CMYK (and pantone). Your screen was always lying to you, even if you calibrated it. Plus colors looked different on coated / uncoated paper.

Yeah, that's a bit of a hot take from the author. I'd say it's equally as readable as RGB. They're both arbitrary values that you need to spend time with to get a feel for.

Not much of a routine to be honest. Wake up around 8:15, lie in bed until 8:30, make a double shot espresso, and start work at 9. I lift weights (at my "home gym") on my lunch break (except Wednesdays) for 45 minutes. Use the last
