I am long on VR. It really does look good. I think everyone's experience has been ruined by crappy. The 90s had a VR far but they sucked. Of you're putting a phone across your face, it sucks. The market was spoiled by crappy imita

I am not a mathematician, but the problem seems easier to intuit. Like a lot of math problems, a formal proof is annoying but I definitely think a regular joe can convince himself why this works. Start at i,j with heights h_i < h_j. Then

Mostly writing this for myself... why would you read predictions from an idiot like me? 1. Bitcoin will never have surpassed double their 2017 high in real terms. 2. Apple will not be in the top 5 of publicly traded US companies by market c

I think there is still value in coding questions, although i agree the value may have diminished. They may be another case of 'as soon as it becomes a metric it's useless as a metric'.

I have always been shocked how accurate altimeters are. Although I understand the math and physics, I am intuitively shocked that a device can measure differences of 10 meters.

The USA is such a vast country, there are so many nice areas. We don't need to cram all of one industry into a single city. I vote Denver, Seattle, or Pittsburgh.

Can't happen. It would instantly be racist--it turns out the people with kids who can do math are the kinds of people who did not need the money. An instant wealth transfer to the well-off. It is interesting as a thought experiment onl

I would not suggest applying logic to most political positions. Views are formed in the gut, not the brain. People are against prostitution because they find it disgusting. Their justifications are all ex post facto. And this applies to mos

News organisations should not be legally bound to take the moral high ground. While we can debate about what they should have done (and I agree with you in this case) it's difficult to write laws to define what constitutes a moral vs

I don't think the argument is that deepfakes won't matter. It's that they don't represent a new paradigm, but are instead just an additional medium (video) which must be more scrutinized than before. Long have documents

This makes me a bit cynical. Are we to believe women are too delicate to receive a 85% or less? I can't seem to read the paper, so I don't know. I find the gender debates on HN mostly pointless... so trying to avoid that here.

The US military's stance is that this is war. Certainly there's no rule that during war one has to know the name of someone before killing them. We are entering a new era and no one knows what the rules are.

It's not really possible to correct errors like this without being a pretentious ass. It's possible that the apostrophe rules we have today we become outdated a-la the who/whom distinction.
