Of course I am being flippant, so thanks for your thoughtful response despite that. I don't know what you mean about wealthy getting first dibs on money (if I am lending to someone why would I care if they are wealthy or not [aside fro

Sure. I agree. I think everyone agrees. I suppose I just get skeptical whenever a solution has been proposed that is apparently a panacea to all of societies problems. When 'x' has been purported to solve everything for 30 years,

One party wants to fix the economy and promote jobs and enterprise. The other wants to destroy the economy so we are all dependent on government handouts and keep voting for more handouts. See how I can easily spin it the other way? I hate

While I agree it isn't UBI, I think it's UBI-light. I am not necessarily saying it's a bad idea, I am just jaded that solutions always follow existing political ties. I am sure there are logical arguments for it. But there ar

I too think this is silly. Everyone wants to use this disaster to achieve the policy goals they wanted anyway. Republicans want to use it as an excuse for tax cuts. Democrats want to expand public healthcare and benefits. Everyone is trying

We are responsible for our own actions and not the actions of our children or siblings nor employees. This might be surprising, but that is a relatively new concept. It was quite common in the ancient world to execute people for crimes thei

Why gold? Anyone can choose any commodity for comparison. Re-do it using copper--or potatoes--and you'll get different answers.

Sorry for the aside, but are those prices in USD? Those seem like very expensive eggs. I am used to paying less than. 10 USD for an egg.

Maybe I'm an old grumpy man, but I just prefer a real computer for serious work. It probably works fine, but I am never as confident on a touch screen. I even prefer to order pizza on a desktop.

You're correct that it isn't surprising. Best action is to bring this to light. Make everyone aware that Reddit is not a free speech zone--its a closely monitored and profit-driven business.

I think at this point we are debating the semantics of '10x programmer'. I would say that coming up with good designs and using proper algorithms is what makes people 10x. I suppose I am saying that if Linus/Junio/whoeve

There is a great WW2-era training film from the US military on how rifles work. Don't want to link it as I am at work, but it's on YouTube. It follows the same philosophy--start with a tube. Add a bolt. Add a trigger. Add a magazi

I shy away from generational griping, because I think a lot of it is misleading. People tend to use statistics that suit them. Eg. a lot more people are staying in school for a lot longer. There are a lot more 25-year-old grad students now

One more thing: things seems cheaper when priced over smaller intervals. For some reason, 50 cents per day sounds cheaper than $15 per month which sounds cheaper than $180 per year. I don't know why. It's a bit like how everything

I am not sure I understand. It sounds like DK claim that assessing one's own competence is difficult (perhaps impossible). I don't see how that conflicts with the title. It is asking for a test that can assess one's rough abi

$70 per hour is incredible, almost too good. It makes me think it's like department store prices though: charge deliberately inflated prices knowing most students will never actually pay the sticker price.

Hmm, I too agree. Essentially we are looking for something between a trade school and the ivory-tower of a university. Bootcamps are close, but I think they are over-promising in their speed (only 12 weeks!) and have some reputational issue
