I hate to be so cynical, but the news tends to write stories along the theme of 'rich-get-richer' no matter which way the economy goes. When the economy booms, it's 'stock market gains mostly went to the wealthy'. W

If the Democrats start performing similar tactics, the republic is in trouble. And I fear that they are learning this is a winning tactic.

'portion of cancer incodence in never-smokers' seems like a bad number to use. Clearly if we completely eliminated smoking, then the number would be 100%. It's clear to me that you and the doctors know that... But then why is

I think there is a trilemma in uni funding: 1. Anyone can receive funds, regardless of cost/financial sense. 2. Anyone can receive funds, regardless of academic performance. 3. Burden on the state will be low. There has to be a filter

What about lawyers working on contingency? If I am not paying my lawyer, aren't we incentivised to charge (approaching) infinity, even if it's just a way to inflate the cost?

It's not gambling and I cannot take it seriously if they cannot even get it correct. Gambling is when you receive money back. What they are describing is a black hole--you put money in and it's gone.

Hmm, so I am not sure I see why that would be more likely. It sounds like you're saying that exterminators are less effective at detection than lumberjacks--whether by effort or some other reason. I think you could just as logically co

When dealing with unknown unknowns any theory can be logical. Maybe extra-terrestrials are more like lumberjacks chopping down trees. Except these lumber jacks avoid *any tree with a bird's nest in it*. Then, we should be as visible
