Bangle.js 2 is the only smartwatch I've kept since Pebble. It's definitely not a polished experience, so I can only recommend with pretty strong caveats, but it has the main things I want from a tool : notifications, long battery

Viewing angles are also fantastic compared to almost all T/R LCDs - they tend to be fairly directional. It's a great display tech for many things that don't need 60+fps.

yea, from my understanding Google has had E2EE when messaging itself for a couple years or so now, mirroring how iMessage encrypts messages to itself. iMessage is even very similar (maybe identical) to MLS, and Google Messages might be a

I wouldn't be particularly surprised if they're hiding the spec / charging pointless $$$ to reduce access, but I was under the impression that it would be available, like RCS's spec itself. e.g.: the RCS v3 page: https

Totally agreed on multiple owners... but that kind of brand-memory is literally what you're paying for when you buy a company and keep the name. Every buyer decided to keep the name.

It's always good to be wrong about good news, then :) I'll definitely be curious about the source code when that happens, and if it'd be reasonable to get it into a SMS-provider-like shape eventually. Particularly since Andro

Keep in mind that this is a brand which has offered 1TB free in the past. They kinda only have themselves to blame for any minimum-price assumptions.

There have been consistent problems with activating RCS, for many years. But it does work for some/many, yes. And AFAIK they have only been desiring to build their own RCS app, and researching it, but have no concrete plans. It'

Yeah, it's pretty awful tbh. I generally recommend disabling RCS, after learning a lot more about it - it feels like a hostile grab at global messaging at this point, heavily entrenched by telecom agreements. Use Signal or something i

I don't believe it's necessary, it's move of an "if you want a dedicated voice keyboard, the UX is a little better" option. I don't have both installed though, as anecdotal evidence.

Regarding 2: that is literally how SMS reactions work. Apps that recognize it just interpret it as "put that emoji on that message". It is unfortunate that it doesn't do that tho. RCS is different, which you can sometimes

More than half of the ones I have installed have no internet access. Most because they don't have the permission (thanks, F-Droid!) and the rest because I've rejected that permission (thanks, GrapheneOS!)

I somewhat suspect the auto-play is a bug with "accessibility -> remove animations". There are quite a lot of Google-product bugs with it enabled (nearly all other apps I use are 100% fine), though most don't render thing

It's wild to me that "internet access" is not revokable or even displayed in the Play Store in stock Android. It's such a huge security and privacy concern, even if most apps semi-legitimately need it. Or, it would

Kinda fits with what I remember when I used iOS daily - I suspect it's because there's so much more UI customization compared to Android (where practically everyone uses the stock animation core pieces, of composes stuff from it).
