Actually, the author pretty much explicitly states that he's not one of those geniuses. "That still leaves open the possibility that I'm just freakin' brilliant, I could have (and would have) produced the same results in any old programming

I wonder what the difference is like between Canada and the States? It must be lower in Canada, even in Vancouver, BC with all the expenses here. Still, I'm sure I'm making well below what I should be. Well, whatever the situation, I'm hap

I also agree with this. Why not have requirements like "One founder must be 6'2" tall"? Okay, it's not exactly the same, but I think the analogy is somewhat reasonable. There are many skills required in order to start a successful business,

My Kaggle partner was trying out Incanter and gave up due to performance reasons. Apparently, when Incanter loads a data set, it loads every cell as a hash as opposed to loading rows or columns as vectors. Correct me if I'm wrong - he wou

I agree with your assertation - specifically with regards to having enough money. How do you define "enough"? I've adopted the outlook that "less is more." I have a ridiculously low cost of living compared to many of my peers. Some of it

This blog, Study Hacks: http://calnewport.com/blog/ has been a great read on this subject, but more specifically on not quitting your job and finding your passion; rather, finding passion in what you're doing and doing the legwork to maki

I was astounded when I noticed a coworker using hunt-and-peck typing. I simply don't understand how a professional who is passionate about their work can not spend the time to master their tools - especially one as fundamental as a keyboar

The way of the theorist is to tell any non-theorist that the non-theorist is wrong, then leave without any explanation. Or, simply hand-wave the explanation away, claiming it as "too complex" too fully understand without years of rigorous

True, but what you write is misleading. I just picked up a Macbook Pro at the end of January, and I can identify with many of his complaints. I would say that some of his complaints are no longer valid, but most are.

Well put. I see the comments here which argue about what a closure really is (and there is a lot of conflicting info out there. Even Douglas Crockford explains it differently than the comments I've seen on this article) when the point of t

Edit: "I'm now comfortable to write an intrusive stack." I mispelled it as "not" by accident. I tried editing the post, but edit functionality doesn't appear to be working correctly.

Jeff Atwood wrote about how the internet has overthrown the major telephone companies, specifically naming Bell: http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/2011/02/the-importance-of-n... I think it's funny (ie., sad) that Bell is pretty much comple

The remove_char function was fun to write, and I found a bug in my first implementation! The Intrusive Stack problem; however, is confusing to read. I searched for a description of what an intrusive stack is on DuckDuckGo, and the first re

Wow. Sign me up. I make around 55k-65k and live like I earn about 20k. The biggest bonus I've ever received was about 10% of my yearly income. That happened once. I went 8 months without work last year. I'm living a completely comfort

I agree. I don't make much money for what I do (then again, I'm only now at 5 years experience), but I'm able to save/freely spend 40% of my pre-tax income.

This pleases me. At my last job I came to realize that I'm "the positive guy." Often my coworkers would be complaining about how an external party was interacting with us - usually a particular response to a query or support request, but o

I wonder how this will affect companies like Mobilicity who offer unlimited cell phone data usage for an additional $10/month. I have no idea how Mobilicity operates and whether they're dependent on Bell's infrastructure or not, and whethe

I think you bring up valid points, but you should work on delivery. Your post is very offensive to read, even from someone who has no stake in this library whatsoever - even though I think you're right. You've also got a lot of typos. So,

This misses the point of a Quine. You haven't written the code to generate the string, you've used an external library that someone else wrote to do that job for you. I made this mistake the first time I tried too.

I think it's funny that they use the term "Propagandists" when refering to Al-Queda, but "Think Tank" when referring to the USA. Maybe there's actually a difference between a think tank and a propagandist. Can someone elucidate me?
