Very nice paper; it seems to cover datastructures used for several different algorithms. I've only glanced at it so far, as it is quite long. I noticed in 1.1.5 "Correctness" that it discusses equivalency of locking, sequential non-locking

I am still, after about 7 months, trying to wrangle emacs. I've basically settled on the path of least-resistance: lispbox: http://common-lisp.net/project/lispbox/ I really, really want to be able to use emacs for everything, but setting

As always, this is a complicated question - more complicated than probably intended. Google certainly isn't seen as the "hip", "cool" place to be anymore. Google+ seems shiny and new, but as a whole, Google has this aura of being a place

This exactly describes my very brief experience working with Java professionally. Back in university it was no big deal - the differences between C++ and Java weren't that big. In a production environment, though; ... XML, XML, XML! Al

This is a chilling tale. To think that the very act of monitoring Hemingway contributed so directly to his demise.

The code actually doesn't need documentation. It's written in a very clear, straight-forward manner that's easy to mentally parse. Very nice!

Just in case anyone only skimmed the article and missed it, check out Erik Moller's blog here: http://my.opera.com/emoller/blog/ He lightly touches on experiences with porting his game to HTML5.

I'm a hardcore Vim user. Just recently I've switched over to about 90% Sublime Text. It's not as configurable as, say, Emacs -ie., you can't do Vim keybindings in it, but you can customize most things very easily. Documentation currently su

Bingo. I got a job where I learned pretty much everything I could about the LAMP stack within a couple of months. I purposefully ignored everything to do with web programming when I was in uni because I wasn't even the slightest bit interes

I would be wary of confusing the idea of pursuing an education with that of getting a job. There's a correlation between the two, for sure, but they're not the same thing. I think universities themselves have been pushing this correlation,

I suspect that Scala is good, but I find the article a little disingenuous. In one example, the author counts curly braces on a line as part of the line count (when it happens in Java code), but doesn't do the same when it happens for Scal

Indeed, I'm in the same camp. I've run into hurdles getting Linux installations to work, but nothing near the headache I've had trying to get a proper Emacs setup. I've been using some flavour of Linux as my primary OS for over three years

This is a really excellent writeup. It's light on technical details, exploring much more the motivations behind why things have evolved the way they have. But, Bram does show the project file layout with brief descriptions of what each fi

Can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em. Personally, I'd rather see Microsoft putting energy into endeavors like these than pish-posh the effort and encourage them to launch patent suits against competitors.

I was just thinking about the Linux similarity too. I didn't even notice it at first, but after reading through this thread, I couldn't help but wonder about tiling window managers like Xmonad and Ion. Man, I want this UI. Honestly, with m

I haven't actually read the patents, but from the overview I would guess that they are completely obvious solutions that patents should never have been granted for.

Interesting. For what it's worth, I plan to give Emacs another go pretty soon here, but I'll be sticking with Common Lisp. I'm kind of done my courting period with Clojure.

I can't say that I've run into this exact issue, or even exactly what the issues have been that I've run into with Emacs, but I know I've spent many hours reading instructions, following tutorials and generally just trying to get a basic em

I used to use Delicious, but I amm-scrayed to Diigo during the rumours of it's collapse. So what's my point? 1. I'm not going to sign in to Delicious. 2. They won't get my data. 3. My data won't be lost, because it's now on Diigo. So there
