"I'm much more interested in how Helen managed to get on this board at all." Indeed. This is far more interesting. How the hell did Helen and Tasha get on, and stay on, the board.

There is no evidence that Adam is the ringleader. All four are possible ringleaders. Given Ilya's change of heart he is slightly less probable as the ringleader.

I'm not sure it is baffling. They thought that this would be easy. Many things in their lives have been easy, blame someone of something, the person scurries away and they win. This time, the person/people they blamed had a great

No kidding, their investment will go to zero as soon as he officially joins Microsoft or starts his own firm. All they will have left is lawsuits.

Good timing! I love it. The board of OpenAi messed up epically and OpenAI is paying the price. Let this be a lesson to other companies: do not let randos on your board.

That kind of compensation skew will case ripples in the company. It's possible that OpenAI is worth it, but it is a big gamble by Microsoft. I think that is approximately L70 comp.

You get it! This is the correct answer. The people who have never had jobs in their lives wanted control of a 100B company. What a pleasant career trajectory. Heck it was already great to go from graduated university -> board of OpenAI.

They may retain him, but his time of being on the board or any board is at an end. The rest of the board. My god. Why were they there?

Delusional. You think that Satya would say “Sam is joining” if Sam didn’t at least verbally accept an offer? You win for stupidest comment on the internet.

"The board is made up seemingly random selection of people" This is what happened. This is the entire explanation. Why did this board exist? Inertia.

I’m shocked. But it is possible that Helen or Adam hatched this inept plan and somehow got Ilya to join along. It was terrifyingly incompetent. The lack of thought by these randos, that they could fire the two hardest working people at the

Where is OpenAI going to get money? They just said, loudly, that they don’t care about money. Money is exchanged for goods and services, like GPUs, hiring researchers and coders, and acquiring data. No one is going to trust them. They will

That’s why you don’t hire people you wouldn’t trust to make a ham sandwich onto the board of a 100B+ company.

Boy, if this is about Ilya being upset that Sam was in the spotlight or about revenue sharing of GPTs … well that’s strange. I would have expected more from such an influential company. I hope that reporting is wrong.

I’m guessing that Ilya wouldn’t have joined without the wacky structure, and I’ll wager that there are some people at the company of similar values. Maybe they could not have pulled off ChatGPT without them. Maybe. But I bet that they have

I have a theory. Ilya has always seemed like he was idealistic and I’m guessing that he was the reason for OpenAI’s very strange structure. Ilya is the man when it comes to AI so people put up with his foolishness. Adam D'Angelo is,

There are various interviews with the author (Rob Copeland). It sounds like Dalio killed his puppy. I don't know what happened but Copeland seems to hate him. In interviews he mostly seems level headed, but intermittently he lets the f

I wish we could somehow get this comment more visibility. Especially the 1st sentence. People that complain about the plights of contractors need to understand the above.
