I'm comfortable (more or less) with a lot of things in society that I wouldn't want children to be doing. I don't think that argument makes sense.

I would have killed for 3 second load times in those days. I suspect that was a highly aspirational guideline.

Yes, this is the way. Datasheets and application notes will tell you nearly everything you need to know. If you don’t understand why something is done or how something works, look it up at that point. Starting from fundamentals is going to

The proprietary tools are painful! I never really used FPGAs outside of school until there were other options. Look at the open source yosys/nextpnr toolchain. Your best bet is to use lattice ice40 or ecp5 FPGAs with it, they’re very w

I don’t see the problem, though I am also not sure what you mean. What is standard? What should people be doing instead? Do TE’s products differ from other grooveboxes?

I think it'd be interesting to see a bit of that process in a blog post. Maybe something about how you do what you do and how your techniques have progressed? Even if it's a hacky mess, it sounds neat.

I have a similar model and I can't stand the case flex issues. If you set the laptop on an uneven surface or try to work while holding it in your other hand, it'll flex and click the touchpad. I use this laptop while working on in

Unfortunately, in some places it can be very difficult to avoid HOAs. In my area they are nearly ubiquitous.

Your comment reminds me of a famous quote: The law, in its majestic equality, forbids rich and poor alike to sleep under bridges, to beg in the streets, and to steal their bread. ―Anatole France

Are you sure it didn’t have a normal plug, with a separate clip for a reliable chassis ground? I don’t see how the half plug with a neutral wire to a radiator would be “safe”, even when compared to a neutral-connected chassis with an unpola

I’m not sure if there’s a The Book (probably though… look for industrial automation course materials); I mostly learned by example, by reading standards (check out NFPA 79 “electrical standard for industrial machinery”), and by reading auto

Yeah, at my last job I had a similar realization. I went in agreeing with the conventional wisdom that you have to use ladder logic so that techs and customers ands other engineers can understand and work on your program. In reality, modern

That’s a cool machine to have. Hopefully the motherboard hasn’t been corroded by a leaky battery and/or capacitors. That’s the common fate of 90s Macintoshes. It’s often repairable, but it can take considerable effort to rework and rep

I and two of my friends bought PS5s. It took some effort, but it wasn’t too bad. We all got them within a month of deciding to buy. I don’t really disagree with what you’re saying though, you have to find an opportunity to buy and then make

In the past, technicians would get engineering change orders and follow the instructions to rewire boards to fix problems. You could also replace state machine and microprogram ROMs, which I guess sounds a lot like a firmware update.
