It should be noted that (as far as I know) none of those are actually fines. It's private companies that track down pirates, and they cannot give out fines. They send you a settlement proposal, saying either pay this or risk being sued

This isn't just about microcontrollers that run software. There's shortages in MOSFETs, motor drivers, power regulation chips, you name it.

From what I remember, basically everything that isn't a phone or computer is on older process nodes that once were cutting edge. Some of these are so old that it doesn't make economic sense anymore to scale up capacity, or it migh

listed prices include VAT pretty much everywhere I've been to in the world, other than the US. If something says it costs €1 or £1 then you're paying €1 or £1 for it at the checkout.

One of the European sellers of the camera (Eleshop) sells a lens and 3d printed holder. I just bought the same lens and 3d printed a holder myself, from what I remember someone on the eevblog linked a suitable one.

I intentionally mentioned the on paper part because I can't attest to the absolute accuracy, but in the aspects that are easily comparable I would say it's way ahead of the FLIR C5 that cost 4x as much I use at work. Both are used

I still find it expensive for a thermal imager. I personally bought a Chinese Guide PC210 for €216 shipped, and that includes 21% VAT, for a whole unit and not just a sensor. For another €15 I got a ZnSe lens for macro use. Not only is it c

As a side note for people wondering why they have so much debt, it's mostly from their financing department. The list of most indebted companies is comprised of mostly car makers for that reason: VW, Ford, Toyota and BMW make up half t

A 20MPG (11.76 l/100km) car is twice as efficient as a 10MPG (23.52 l/100km) car though? The issue is going from 30 to 20MPG is not the same change as going from 20 to 10MPG, where as the difference between 15 and 10, and 10 and 5

To you and me it seems obvious, but to someone less familiar the rules clearly say using Github is prohibited, even if it is for the wrong reasons. At that point you should either get clarification of the rules, or take the risk and end up

I would personally hazard the guess that for a significant portion of the people who use Arduino, it just means any board that is programmed in the Arduino framework. They have no real idea about or connection to the hardware that is runnin

The notion that an Arduino has to be (just) an AVR chip is wrong though. The board in question here is an Arduino MKR Vidor 4000 (which doesn't even contain an AVR chip, the SAMD21 is a 32bit ARM Cortex M0) and you also have the Arduin

Duplicating the design isn't super hard to do, there's reference schematics available that you can just copy. I suspect the real reason is that the QFN56 package of the RP2040 chip has a thermal pad below it that requires hot air
