A few years ago I was idly thumbing through old books at a used store. Looking over a remedial arithmetic book, I was surprised to find that they referred to zero as “the cipher”. Exponentiation and the process of finding a square root were

The average age of first sexual intercourse in the US is ~17 for both boys and girls, and rising. The hypersexuality of adolescents is overstated in popular media, though probably varies by region. I grew up in a pretty promiscuous environm

Stepping over the general LHP/RHP question that you’re driving at, I’ll expand on this: > Someone asked why Crowley is perennially popular on HN. It's because his approach appeals to people who have experienced enough religion

I remember stumbling across the angelfire site for a defunct occult order (the master, “Sir Faustus” or something like that, had apparently mysteriously disappeared). I understood maybe 1% of what I was looking at, but it felt very momentou

I recently discovered just ( https://just.systems ), a make alternative that’s much more ergonomic IMO, and have been using it in my personal projects. It’s task-oriented, not goal-oriented, so not a perfect replacement, but works
