Hey this is really cool! If you ever think about charging for anything in your extension please check out my project ExtPay which makes it easy to accept payments in extensions: https://extensionpay.com

I hear you that you want to keep your project free, but I'd also like to point out that it doesn't matter if your project is open-source or not to use ExtensionPay! For example, the extension NotionBoost is open source and also us

Have you thought about adding paid features or anything like that? I made a service that makes it really easy — https://extensionpay.com It's open source and works across all browsers.

Working on https://extensionpay.com — a service to let browser extension developers accept payments for their extensions. It's open source, free to sign up and start using, and works cross-browser.

Switching all fossil-fuel powered appliances (including electric cars) to electric will reduce our total energy needs by half due to the inherent efficiencies in electric machinery. Source: https://www.rewiringamerica.org/ha

This is something people don't seem to understand about Chia. Mining ("farming") Chia is a very low-resource activity that can be done easily on Raspberry Pis — it's mostly just doing a few disk seeks every 30 seconds.

Maybe! One of the bets the Chia team is making is that there's a lot of over-provisioned storage already out in the market that organizations and individuals will start to turn toward farming. This is obviously a lot more profitable th

I don't think that specialized hardware is a security feature of Bitcoin, and definitely not one that was addressed or foreseen in the Bitcoin whitepaper (one IP one vote or one CPU one vote). In fact, it's quite easy to argue the

SSDs are not required for farming Chia or even really advantageous at this point. Using them to write the plot data is faster than HDDs certainly, but that only happens once per plot and will happen a lot less as the network growth slows do

Chia has the nice property that it leverages the existing 1.2 zettabyte per year storage market, though. Meaning that no specialized hardware for mining is needed — existing storage in the world can be used to mine, lessening the environmen

SSDs aren't required for Chia, they're just faster for plotting which is a one-time process anyway. Once plots are made they can be "farmed" (mined) indefinitely for the energy cost of idling drives. So the environmental

That wouldn't make for a very useful global ledger :) Once a farmer wins a block it's theirs, the same way it works with bitcoin. The reward is tied to a public key, not the original storage. Just like in bitcoin once a miner wins

It all depends on the economics. It's pretty likely that at some point reinvesting in Chia by buying more drives just doesn't make sense. You can also read more about the power consumption of Chia here: https://chiapowe

No, it's just useful to use SSDs for plotting since they're faster. For farming any storage (HDDs, for example) are fine.
