40gbps is an insane data rate that requires shielding, precision, and testing. There is no way you are getting that for $2. That said, outside of connecting a laptop to your monitor, you don't need a 40gbps cable.

It's because they are straight up defective. The USB-C spec is pretty clear in that the power pins have 0v until you signal for a voltage. This isn't a failure of USB-C, you should just return defective devices to the OEM. Thankfu

Because space inside a phone is at an extreme premium. And this problem is solved by either using magsafe to charge or using an external hub for more ports.

Batteries are massively more expensive. Thats why the utility companies are just giving consumers free power over building their own grid scale batteries. A tank of water is cheap, it’s just not possible to distribute hot water over the gri

I'm so on board for this. It would be kind of fun to wire all my appliances in to home assistant to have the dishwasher / dryer / etc all run during the free hours. I imagine eventually we might end up with some thermal stora

What if pedophiles were sent to jail instead of elected. Technical tricks like IPFS can’t prevent even 1% of the damage caused by giving criminals this much power over society.

The breakdown here doesn’t tell the whole story I feel. Mobile gaming is largely Asian countries hooked on gambling apps. The traditional “gaming” on consoles and PC still exists more than it ever has. It feels like saying game consoles are

Nintendo still makes some co op games but you are right it’s an area that has largely died off lately. I think the boom in the board game industry has been a response to the death of co op video games.

The government is different from a person. I’m ok with cctv being recorded and stored for x days with protocols and laws that restrict who can access it and for what purposes. With audit logs and penalties for misuse.

I got a steam deck 2 years ago and I haven’t run in to any games like this. They all either skip the launcher or have a controller navigable one. I just had a look at the steam page and valve has listed a long list of usability issues with

I really don’t agree. Especially in this day where anyone, or any business could run it all through AI and profile everyone to work out the exact best moment to send you a push notification for a Big Mac or whatever.

This just illustrates the article point. We have come to the point where a console is just a worse less useful version of a PC. Steam OS will replicate the nice TV UX of consoles but not be locked down.

Games update on consoles too. I’ve never been unable to play a game on my steamdeck because of an update. It just manages them automatically in the background.

All I’ve seen is there is literally no programmer smart and careful enough to never create a use after free or out of bounds read in a sufficiently complex codebase. The state of computer security has moved on from the old model of just pat

Of course games that don’t have controller support won’t work with controller. The steam store marks this with a label / rating system. If it’s for a green mark then everything will work with a controller.

What is the definition of a console then? At this point it’s just a pc that runs a locked down OS. Back 20 years ago the distinction was just obvious.

I don’t think anyone has the steam machine to test this stuff yet but I can’t see any reason it can’t do exactly the same thing.

Valve has essentially fixed this in most aspects. My Steam Deck is as much of a "just works" experience as the switch. In fact I think it just works even easier because it automatically syncs my saves between my gaming desktop and

I can accept the waste of having a second much lower power CPU in the phone I use with me every day. But I can't justify having both a gaming pc and a playstation/xbox that's exactly the same thing with a different OS on it.

The line is far more blurred now. The Steam Machine is a purpose built device streamlined for playing games. Yet without any hardware modifications you can put it on your desk and load windows on it. So it's clearly a PC too. The nitpi

You wouldn't just charge more for driving. You do it in combination with funding public transport, building safer cycling routes, and removing roadblocks from building cheap housing near PT hubs.

I looked this up and realised it’s the page I’d seen briefly on a range of websites lately. It’s not annoyed me at all. Not nearly as much as having to complete captchas with slow refreshing tiles.

Even under AppleCare this is a $400 service which for an older macbook costs almost as much as the whole thing. And without Applecare it's not worth fixing at all.
