Yes that's the compromise we have had to live with. But some countries like Singapore and China are showing it is actually possible to just solve theft so you don't have to deal with your bike being stolen.

From what I can tell, they are mostly fully occupied with dealing with emergency situations and domestic violence calls. There isn’t the resources allocated to searching for bikes. Especially when there often isn’t much to go off. Making th

They will still steal your seat, lights, wheel, and any other bit they can get. Sure you can use all number of locks, security bolts, and stripping the bike down yourself every time you leave it, but it’s sucks. You’d rather public spaces j

Tbh solving this is one of the actual use cases for things like flock cameras. Simply bolting things down harder is still defeated by a battery powered grinder.

Browser extensions were also one of the biggest ways to distribute malware. The situation was genuinely horrific. Malware distributors would offer popular extension devs millions of dollars to buy the extension, then silently insert malware

This is actually how FaceTime works on the Apple Vision Pro. Though that’s because your face is covered by a giant headset. We can already compress video massively, enough to video call on crappy mobile connections without much care. I can’

The layperson doesn’t have any idea what they are talking about so it’s hard to pull a coherent statement out of it. People claim they want unprocessed photos but it’s not clear what they even mean by that. I think we can rule things like a

Jack Ma is as scummy as the American tech elite, The whole 996 work schedule was from his companies. It's honestly good for society that people like him get reined in. And it's not like they sent him to some north korean death cam

Any file format or data structure you can display on the screen is processed. The whole point is the debate around phone processing is not as clear cut as photos being processed vs unprocessed.

You can't see a raw image though. Any time you look at an image, decisions had to be made about how to interpret that raw image.

The technology is fundamentally flawed. It's essentially DRM that relies on making the signing key hard to access.

From what I have seen, the attitude towards AI in China is entirely different. The population largely believes it's a positive technology that will help improve their lives. While in America there is a seething hatred towards AI where

It's not really possible to have zero processing of an image. At some point you have to interpret the sensor data and turn it in to a JPEG. The line people decide an image is "processed" is pretty subjective though. It's

This is a feature a lot of companies are looking in to right now. It's less about reducing processing and more about proving something is real and not AI generated. The iphone processing doesn't straight up generate things that ar

Every dedicated camera is like this, more so if you shoot in raw. There's also a lot of confusion around the processing here. The iPhone is mostly just taking multiple pictures and stacking them on top of each other to make up for the

This is going to be catastrophic. Whether AI works or is useful or not isn’t even the question anymore. It can fulfil every promise Sam Altman has been making and will still make no financial sense to justify these valuations.

It wouldn't have helped. In Australia we have Gumtree which has a UI that is just as modern as Facebook but it was still crushed. No one can compete in a space that lives on network effect.

Social media in general is doomed. Adverts, invasive tracking, and AI slop have killed it. Rather than creating tiktok but open source, we should just dump the idea entirely. Social media was a net negative to society.

That's logical, but the parent comment "I'm immune to ads, I won't click them" falls flat because no one is immune to ads. That's why it's such a big industry.
