Just to note, interchange in the EU is capped at 0.2-0.3%. Stripe charge 1.4% + €0.25, so that's not the full story (there are scheme fees too, but I assume Stripe is still making some margin on the % fee - but open to correction on t

Not to mention sensitive design documents that must stay on-prem can't be uploaded to cloud services like Figma (I don't know if this is possible to do in Figma somehow? I've never looked into it)

Given that Cal Henderson & Slack appears in the chart twice with different numbers each time, I'd take these figures with a grain of salt. Plus the tone of the article makes it seem like a quick marketing piece to try and advertise

Almost every point in this post is incorrect and/or exaggerated (except for the Privacy one): > Cacheing. I get the superficial appeal of this. But there are dozens of popular Javascript CDNs available. What are the chances that you

Can some legal eagle explain why a magistrate is presiding over the case, rather than a judge? (For those who don't know, in the UK a magistrate is just a layperson volunteer, not a legally trained judge)

Well you could view it as a net win for the consumer in that developers are getting more of a cut from sales, thus funding future development and patches for their games.

On Apple, the minimum price for anything is $0.99. You can't set arbitrary prices - only price bands.

Woah - so it is! I'm glad Epic are giving this issue so much publicity - I think consumers seeing the pricing effects of the 30% App Store/Play Store cut is the only way to get people to care about this stuff.

Same here! I even checked to see if an AWS region was down once I realised it wasn't on my side (I thought it might have been my ISP's DNS servers or something). The next move was to check Hacker News - thankfully it's not al

The same event can affect different people differently... e.g. if Elon Musk gets burgled, he can always just buy new stuff... but if someone whose financial circumstances are worse got burgled (like perhaps a single mother), that would affe

Switched from Postman to Insomnia a couple of years ago and couldn’t be happier: https://insomnia.rest I’m not sure if it has all the team/cloud sync stuff but for individual use it’s great!

Hard API limits on 100 rows returned at a time also make it completely infeasible for some use cases. Last time I checked, this couldn't even be lifted for enterprise customers too.

Only the per-transaction costs are relevant. Just like VAT, you don’t include that you had to pay a VAT registration fee and accounting costs of X per year to process it. Agreed that it does become complicated when you have multi-tiered fee

PayPal won’t let you add a TransferWise account, for unspecified reasons. At least that’s the case for UK/EU. There are some reports of people being able to add one in the early days - but now it’s like a blanket ban. It could be becau

Interchange is capped at 0.3% in the EU (0.2% for debit cards). Paypal + Stripe charge 1.9% + €0.25 for merchants in the EU charging EU customers. Also, you can't blame a 3-5% currency conversion fee (often paid twice - once by the cu

Paypal also have some crappy rules about adding a USD account to a company not registered in the US. And they're currency conversion fees are obscene if you want to withdraw USD to EUR (on the order of like ~4% iirc)

I didn't mean literally mutating the same structure in place - but a new version of your data structure could be returned from a function which changes some of the keys/values in unsafe ways.
