Regarding the NSFW thing: if this was so big for Tumblr, how does Reddit get away with it? I mean, some subreddits are pretty seriously NSFW :)

Thanks for the quote. I also thought the "40 megaton" stuff in the series was way overdramatized. I had no idea they really thought this. But of course nuclear was very new and these were also the guys that believed an RBMK could

Does anyone actually start smoking because they need nicotine? I've never heard that. It's always been peer pressure and only then do they get dependent on the nicotine.

First I thought this was a belated covid mask thing. I've actually used fan-powered masks from LG during the pandemic because I already have some respiratory issues. There was really a usecase for them. I also use a CPAP mach But this

I do have to say the "Tim Cook being shown an iPhone" thing is pretty funny. But yeah the news value in this is zero.

The only reason you need an SUV to keep your kids safe is all the other SUVs on the road. It's become a weapons race of ever bigger tanks. This really has to stop sooner or later.

Interesting, if that becomes a thing then a lot of trucks could arguably do with a lot less batteries and thus waste less power lugging them around. Sounds like a win-win.

I'm surprised they use flip chip tech in something this expensive. Flip chips tend to be sensitive to light and this is after all a laser module. Raspberry pi had lots of issues with photosensitivity in its flip chip wifi controller. U

Well we did have PearPC even before they went Intel. I used it a bit to see if I could do everything I needed before I bought a Mac. It was horribly slow but something more optimized like Rosetta might help. It'll be a much harder game

KDE also does #1, showing web search results when typing in the launcher. Probably just trying to be helpful rather than trying to push bing or edge or data mine my searches. But still it doesn't belong there IMO. However I'm sure

I wonder if it's possible for these concepts to really go big. The problem is, there's a lot more lemons on the market then there's great deals. Nobody wants the car that doesn't start twice a week or that's been in

Yes this is also because these days monitor engineers optimize for peak brightness and totally neglect minimum brightness specs. Because 600 nits looks great on a spec sheet and it's just difficult to regulate (backlight) LEDs over a h

It's done to offer the office supply shops a bonus by giving them the extra sale of their ridiculously overpriced USB cables. They make more profit on those than on the printer itself as they're just cheap Chinese $1 cables. Anoth

Nice, but make a flexible version I can wrap around my arm. That'd really be handy, not needing to grab the phone all the time but still having a full featured touchscreen on my arm.

I really hope hardware keys keep working as people move to passkeys though. I don't trust the software implementations and I don't use 'trusted' software like Windows or Mac. Linux and BSD keep getting forgotten. Firefox

Zfs send/receive is nice but it does lack the toolchain to easily extract individual files from a backup. It's more of a disaster recovery thing in terms of backup.

It's not really about the accent. It's just that companies that outsource to Asia do so because they value the cost over quality. Because obviously in-house and in-region support is much better because the agents are more up to sp

Yes Termux is great. It can even do SSH key authentication on a Yubikey with OKCagent, with key forwarding which other options e.g. Termbot can't do. Unfortunately the restrictions in later Android versions make it more and more diff

I understand, it will also put up a barrier to spammers registering hundreds of accounts. What I don't understand though is, why they don't just ask for money directly instead of using the fake number as a roundabout way.

Android is not really optimised for desktop usage, this is the problem. It doesn't have swap and it forces apps to reload instead, which is really annoying when doing work in multiple windows. Like I said below, go to an excel sheet to

I think Samsung DeX is not half bad for your point #1. The only real issue with it is that the current generation of their smartphones doesn't come with enough memory. Only 8GB (S22) or even 6 (S21FE). You need more for decent multitas
