No one needs to "flip their shit" in order for it to be a bad name. I just don't like the sound of the word, for example, and that unpleasant feeling ends up tainting my opinion of the product. That's totally unfair, b

Judgment? Of course. That's one of the main things we ask writers to do. But that's not the same as superiority – especially the shallow thoughtless sort that you expected from the author. You're not even trying to give this

What good is your uninformed dismissal, here? You're not even judging the book by its own cover! The essay that was precursor to the book lacks literary references, and if anything is infused with a sense of inferior ity.

It doesn't seem that way. If you're being snide... well, I guess that's that. Sad that you need to be so critical of one mildly helpful data point.

No. We have no knowledge of your neighborhood, whereas US readers have a good-enough picture of the US. It's also useless because a neighborhood is too small a unit of measurement to be useful, period. Unlike cities, states, or the ent

How on earth is it impossible to logically derive a Leap Day every four years in a consistent spot, especially compared to any other calendaring we already do?

I mean... it's context to make it relevant to US readers. You didn't see me say there was a direct comparison to be made. And you're kind of contradicting your claim that it's totally useless. 121/million vs. 1/

It seems like you're responding to the idea that "hacking is bad" and that's not at all what the essay got across to me. In fact, it outright agrees that "the focus on learning and doing is important." Instead

Why on earth do you claim the judge is doing this? The law in Iowa defines death as irreversible. What reason do you have for saying the judge's common sense is what's at play rather than, you know, the law?

Before you comment about the judge getting it wrong, do your due diligence and at least get familiar with the plain text of the law. In Iowa, "death" is defined in Iowa Code §702.8 as "an irreversible cessation of spontaneous

First of all, that wasn't the original sentence. What you've got is "fish fish fish eat eat", whereas the original was "fish fish fish eat eat eat ". It would be nice if English worked recursively like that, b

It's convenient using "X" as a placeholder, because that specifically masks the problem of stacking up verbs. "Fish fish eat" is indeed a sensible noun phrase. And we can make that noun a subject of the verb eat.

You can't infinitely nest those. Fish [that] fish eat eat [food]. That works because the second "eat" is in the present indicative. But you can't stack those. With three "eat"s, the second one needs to be follo

That's an article from several months ago. The Supreme Court already ruled, and said that federal courts couldn't do anything about it, so state governments that are controlled by one party can continue to entrench their power. h
