It's very successful on the "get social media sites to link to us" standard.

The biggest key to success here would be convincing the gatekeeper that he needs to roleplay realistically as it's supposed to be a simulation of the real thing. Otherwise no argument will be successful. The AI must convince the gatekeeper

Actually, "go to the emergency room" is a health plan. It's just the most inefficient health plan for all involved.

What's supposed to stop open source OSes from including a copy of your commercial function in their next version? Isn't recreating commercial products for free of the point of open source? By your definition anyone who doesn't own the OS i

http://www.google.com/search?q=google&ie=utf-8&oe=ut... When I googled google, the top story was about whether google was turning into big brother. Which I suppose answers that question as they're clearly not censoring it!

Part of the thing that people think is fun about myspace is the feeling that they're hacking it by customizing their profile.

Pretty and functional do have significant correlation. At this point looking pretty (or at least clean like HN) is a basic qualification to get me as a user. Developers who think through clear UI are more likely to get the back end right.

Amusing that you dismiss philosophy in the first paragraph and then go right ahead and engage in it in the second.

I guess the question is whether being wrong 1,000,000 times is equivalent to being wrong 1 time. Sadly, the problem doesn't define that.

The reason that people are confused is because of the word "probability." I guess they don't realize that probability is simply a tool that tells you what to guess.

If you're being asked, then you know that a bet of Heads will be right 1/3 of the time. So the probability from your perspective is 1/3. It doesn't make a different if you're only doing it once or a million times. The whole point of proba

I think you may be misreading the question. Given tails, you are asked both Monday AND Tuesday. That's why it gets tricky--you have to double down if it's tails.

What are the good books on negotiation? I previewed the Trump book and it looked like most stories and musings more than technical explanation.

Your first diagram makes it look like something is split between Monday and Tuesday, when it's not split at all. You get both of those "tails" interviews, in sequence. So you get asked two times for the answer when it is tails, and only o

On Heads, sleeping beauty gets asked once. On Tails, she gets asked twice. If I walk into the room and see her being asked, it's a better bet that the coin landed tails. If this experiment is repeated many times, "Tails" will be the right

Twitter's heavy focus in states with major cities probably looks very much like early graphs of cell phone use. I still have a hard time imagining it spreading, but I guess I haven't been bit by the twitterbug yet.

One good way to get people to enter data the right way is to use conditional formatting to make it change a color when they enter the word that you want. It's very satisfying to turn a line from yellow to green (in progress to complete for

If you have data, please share it. The only bits of info I found were that busing students from one neighborhood to the next didn't have much effect either way. The problem of selection bias is of course going to be very present as always.
