COBOL used to drive some government and business web sites. You could tell because the HTML was output in 100 column fixed width format.

> they wouldn’t have to worry about competing CPU designs, at least not for a very long time. US Government sales require two vendors, which I think is why AMD had x86 licenses in the first place.

The uniform scale of the symbols is deceptive since the source drawings have substantially different sizes. The hand outline is hand sized, for instance.

That's what the specs say, but I found out it actually didn't work that way when I was working on a transpiler, at least for that installation.

People aren't getting that it was two characters that need to be added, not two bytes to make a short into an int. COBOL uses a fixed width character format for all data (yes even for COMP). If you want a four digit number, then you ha

It seems as if the people who rave about it's coding abilities are doing a lot of copy+paste stack overflow level of coding. I'm not sure whether it's great that this can be automated, or if it's depressing that so much

There are two sides to this: investigations and monitoring. For HR and security investigations, this rewind capability would be very useful, is legal, and at least partially already performed using forensics tools. Monitoring is where you r

SOX was implemented with COBIT 4, Control Objectives for IT. This introduced a lot of process and cost overhead, so COBIT 5 removed the control objectives -- it's just a list of IT topics. So now, corporations can now comply with SOX b
