I tried reading it some months ago but quit after some chapters. At a certain point, it gave me the impression of randomly throwing in some technical terms (not related to CS, there's also other stuff) just to sound smart. I can have g

Maybe the first category needs some explanation. I have a realtive that relies on his own understanding... Way too much, to the point that he assumes to be right too often and so is mostly unable to listen to advice. Does he fall in the fir

Well, if you look for this, many if not most movies will have some inaccuracy or holes in explanation like this. In the end, I watch movies for entertainment. If I'm looking for scientific precision, I see a documentary instead.

I can't see anything more than the letter's picture in the thread, is it now required to have an X account to read discussions?

Once I put an old Galaxy S3 in a plastic box to protect it from the environment and with a small solar panel on top to power it. I compiled Cuberite and run a small Minecraft server on it dor a while. It was a funny litte project.

I couldn't find again the example I saw many years ago, I could only find a GCC bug that has been fixed now. So you're likely right and I just didn't remember correctly. But we still can have the zeroing out of memory before

You mean how do I use it for streaming? That changed over the years and I haven't been using it for streaming the last months due to circumstances. But if you are looking for suggestions, then I would point you to DietPi as OS and Kodi

The second tool could be more user friendly, thus easier to remember how to use it. Compare how this tool makes you generate a key vs the syntax of ssh-keygen.

My experience was the opposite: my gen1 Chromecast's unreliable streaming is what made me get a Raspberry pi 3 :) IIRC the problem likely was the lack of support for 5Ghz WiFi combined with crowded channels in my area.

It's not even that. Yes, in case of signed intger overflow, usually yoj get whatever the CPU gives as answer for the sum. But you also have the famous case of an if branch checking for a null pointer being optimized away. And even in

We can debate whether it's reasonable or not to optimize code based on undefined behavior. But we should at least have the compiler emit a warning when this happens. Just like we have the notorious "x makes an integer from a point

As someone that knows C but isn't familiar with compiler internals, I ask: would the disruptive optimizations discussed here kick in even when compiling with ootimizations tured off (-o0)? C has also other issues related to undefined b

AFAIK (but my knowledge is 2/3 years out of date) the problem with general computation is that current schemes are still too slow for parctical use. But recent developments give hope that it could be doable in the future.

Is the used scheme fully homomorphic encryption or just homomorphic wrt a specific operation? Because they only mention "homomorphic" without the "fully".

Interesting, but they can jump up to 50W or 100W depending on the model. Which such a big swing, you really need to consider your specific use case to see what will be the actual power consumption.

Sounds interesting, could you please share brand and model? Also, do you know how many SSDs/HDDs you can put inside? Could be a good replacement to have a low power NAS.
