LLMs don’t have human-like minds in any perceptible sense though.

In my opinion, after seein the Jacobian conjecture go, the Riemann hypothesis only has about a year left. I’m not sure if people just aren’t as aware, but the Jacobian conjecture practically was on par with those other great problems.

Learning ASM will actually teach you a lot about how the computer works, and I doubt learning CSS deeply teaches you much about design fundamentals.

I don’t recommend going around intentionally making your collaborators looks like fools to an audience that doesn’t know anything about mathematics.

Looks like the 16 year old thanks the Professor for some kind of collaboration, so why does the title make this look like some kind of conflict? This just comes across as unnecessarily demeaning to the Professor.

I don’t really like AI but let’s stop kidding ourselves, no human mathematician could make progress on a dozen major open problems in a week or two. If you’re measuring it against humans then it is by far the best mathematician to ever live

Why do you think the AI companies are going to let it be a “we” kind of decision, and since it’s obviously not going to be a “we” kind of decision, as getting to this point certainly has not been thanks to people like you, what makes you th

Being right about the thing that’s genocides all culture and likely worse isn’t such a great thing to brag about, but go ahead.

Hopefully doesn’t ever happen, since that’s one of the more plausible omnicide scenarios. I human like AI is almost certainly achievable without much research effort at this point, but we shouldn’t do it.

Why are you so sure UBI is the most efficient solution to those problems? Another solution is for the wealthy to let the poor live miserable lives and to use technology to oppress them. A protest can be put down with drones, robots, and cha

Fair, but as an American I’m still interested in this more limited question. Why were the early American Marxists wrong and why are the new Americans saying similar things right this time?

Why are you correct even though the early Marxists (who posited that capitalism would inevitably lead to socialism) were wrong? We have had mass production for a hundred years without any hint of socialism. And I would like you to be right,

I feel that AI has deeply diminished my ability to be weird and awesome, because my weird and awesome takes time and the results I can share with others are outshined by the machine.

Anyone willing to put Ghibli themed AI slop on their page has nothing to share about truth, unless their truth is that management is fundamentally unethical.

You can try. What happens is it cheats you at every turn and finally admits it wasn’t testing anything when you ask why it’s still broken. Yes, this actually happens.

Rigorously designing and understanding the system does not sound like what you were referring to in the original post. All of my heroes always said the difficult part is not in the writing of the code, but in the reading/understanding

The step you describe is the main use case I’ve found where vibe coding actually makes sense. Going from there to actually make a good version of the thing then becomes more hands on.

I’ve done a lot of vibe coding and I just can’t understand these takes. Pure vibe coding is not going to get you to a good result, so the alchemist you describe is still very much essential, and as far as I can see will be for a very long t

So your stance is that it is impossible to create a simulated intelligence which is not conscious? That seems like the less likely possibility to me. I do think it’s clearly possible to manufacture a conscious mind.
