Not sure what stack you're using, but Azure Application Insights is very nice for logging. And they have lots of tools for what you're mentioning (but you have to pay for them). If not, maybe you do have to build them (and it migh

We're using Azure at my current workplace, and the amount of legwork you can get done is pretty amazing (as long as you're willing to pay for it). We have an ARM template to set up environments, deployment is painless with Azure D

Same here. We used Slack and liked it. We're now using Teams, it's tolerable but Slack had significantly better UX. The Android app in particular has trouble. And muting is all-or-nothing. I've also had corrupted channels, I

That must be it, the best salary offer I got in Austria was about 4000 euros a month. My brother in law moved to Silicon Valley because he had a very low salary ceiling in Vienna.

It is. Also, people don't want to do it for any amount of money. I quit a previous job and took less money because I got moved to maintain the crumbling Forte4GL core system - I did get a handsome raise for that, but the writing was al

It´s going to kill overseas sales for them. Both me and my gf have Huawei phones, but the next phone will be a Xiaomi. Fortunately the U.S. didn't kill all Chinese manufacturers, Samsung and the rest are overpriced compared to them.

The ones people mentioned, plus a big one is you have way less chances of advancement if the team isn´t entirely distributed. Scott Hanselman is one of the highest-profile remote workers, check out his blog entries: https://www.h

My mother hosted him and I didn´t hear anything out of the ordinary for Stallman... I mean, you know he´s going to be monothematic about his beliefs, but I heard nothing besides that.

The athletics craze is an US-only thing as far as I can tell. Other countries (at least Europe and Latin America) basically don´t have athletic scolarships and any athletic program is a strictly extracurricular activity.

Maybe Google can´t do that because they are the ones doing the scummy thing. I personally know 2 cases of people banned from Google, in one case they were actually infringement (they made an app using copyrighted characters), and in the oth

I don´t know what they do in the U.S., but here in Uruguay the parents ARE responsible for kids that commit severe felonies (unless they´re old enough to be judged themselves). It´s not usually applied though.

As many mentioned, it´s licensing. My team had Slack but Teams got rolled company-wide and we were forced to switch. IMO Teams is much worse but I guess it gets the job done not horribly enough.

I have replicated the performance differentials (for Azure), and they definitely suck. But people are REALLY REALLY expensive (not only the ongoing costs, but hiring, firing and overhead), and Cloud has another huge advantage: accounting tr

I don´t know in which world you live where SW devs make that... some FAANG developers maybe - 5.000 to 10.000 people total? Compare to over a million doctors in the U.S. only.
