It´s basically one of legitimacy, as you point out with "lawful government" (so I guess you disagree). The police ARE the state goons, so the outcome doesn´t change much .

Cost of living is cheaper, so you'll just accept less money and let the company keep it? Yes. I work remotely from Uruguay. It´s basically the only option to compete with U.S. talent, the whole point of remote work for the company is

For whatever reason, software engineers don't have the luxury of doing a diagnostic. That´s not necessarily true. I´ve worked with very good, serious consultancies, and I´ve seen a quote for thousands of dollars for exploratory work

Wow, that is ridiculous. I guess there´s an unmet need for coworking spaces in Boston then :)

Set up a very short timeframe and goal - let´s say, I´m going to make a prototype (or code feature X) this weekend. Then show it here :) . The risk of it "getting stolen" exists, of course.. but if you don´t do it it´s exactly the

The main thing with Salesforce, or SAP, or other software of the sort, is the ecosystem and knowledge that´s tied up with it. You can do most things you can do on Salesforce with generic software, but the know-how is explicit on Salesforce

I think you have to be introduced into the program by an accelerator now. I´ll miss it, it was a pretty awesome program.

I went the opposite way, from an employer with an insane dedicated server to using cloud services, and I was appalled at how weak the cloud SQL servers are. Of course, they don´t need hardware expenses, licensing is factored in, administrat

I think that conferences, etc, build up on the human element and are important, but not for the reasons you mention. My current belief is that a 95% remote team works, you do need in-person opportunities, the more the better, but at least o

I work on a remote office, and while I definitely agree that the rapid prototyping stage works better in-person, current tools help a lot - we have a pretty large app that was built 100% remotely (I did ask for in-person meetings but there

At a financial institution I worked for, they had a separate entrance with separate badges and alarms for the really sensitive stuff. I only entered that area once, as I was a low-level programmer. It was also the only company where I never

That´s exactly what I have at work, and it does deter tailgating. Some people do ask for the owner of a badge to do a second pass but security always appears at that point.

Microsoft Azure has such a feature (although not for Enterprise users, which is evil), I´m surprised that AWS doesn´t. https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/support/legal/offer-detail...

At least for MS SQL, code is fully source controllable, I have it on Git and we have all automated deploys and niceties. Views can be a problem from a performance side, Oracle has materialized views but MS SQL lags behind (I think Postgre h
