It does violate the letter of the law. B1 visa is only for training, meetings, conferences, etc, if you work remotely for an U.S. company you're not supposed to work while there, only training and meetings. Not sure if you work for a f

I actually liked the syntax for generics a lot more (and BASIC syntax in general over C syntax). But C-style syntax has won over the world.

A lot of immigrants do that, but you have to know the local system of where you'll be treated (that's why it's mostly immigrants that do it). For what I'm readying, for a lot of non-life-threatening care, it's way c

There are better systems... over here in Uruguay, you have basic tax-paid "free" healthcare but you are able to purchase better services on top (I have several layers of extra care on top of national basic service). The richest us

Yours was a good question, no idea why you got downvoted. Mdpopescu provided an insightful answer. Also, it opens up networking opportunities for said developers, maybe they get a better remote contract afterwards.

I want to try my hand again at video-sales. Huge market there (tried my hand at a startup, unfortunately didn't get funding and WebRTC was a bit flaky as well).

My country (Uruguay) has strong, very often out-of-control unions. I don't think they're a solution. I've seen good union leaders, but most of them were corrupt and actively harmed the workers they purported to defend (when t

I stayed away from Core because of the issues you mention, but it's gotten a lot better recently. Did a POC for an API that wouldn't break anything if it had to be reworked, and it was a breeze. Of course, if Node works for you, t

Agreed, I built a data entry program in VB.NET for an insurance company. The WYSIWIG aspect of .NET WinForms and events meant I could build a very efficient data entry program (I miss that part a lot when developing for the web).

The company I used to work for (big, multibillion-dollar insurance company) had a lot of VB.NET projects (and C# projects, and Java projects, and anything you might care to think about). In particular, the manager at the branch I worked in

In the U.S., you mean. I've seen plenty of events (usually professional conferences) that have to be paid in cash or wire transfer here in South America.

The former president of my country (Uruguay) was a terrorist (or "freedom fighter"), and so is the current vice-president. So, does every national at my country have to say "Yes"?

You can find some pretty awesome work on "traditional" companies. There are some pretty cutting-edge projects where I work too :) (but way more legacy migrations and boring financial CRUD apps).

I built and maintain one such service. Hopefully we don't have delayed gate information, but we DO ultimately rely on airlines, and we sometimes get very confusing information.
