You may not like the idea of the book or the approach, but the site is executed with amazing detail. From the design to the animations, to the use of local storage to work offline, remembering which pages you have visited, window.history, t

The data visualization realm might be something for you. Take a look at Stamen Design for inspiration ( http://stamen.com ). There is so much more interesting data than maps and Flickr photos out there, from government data to the data that

Isn't this basically how Scrum works in agile development? We're doing this at work and include our direct client contacts as well (daily 15 minute conference call). It helps immensely in avoiding communication issues arising from different

Two things come to mind for me. Flash 6 was how I learned programming. I realized I could create visual patterns and animations through code that I could never do by hand. The visuals were my goal, coding was what I had to learn on the way.

Game mechanics are everywhere, even when they are displayed by colorful illustrations and badges. From friend counts in Facebook, to Karma in HN, time pressure in Groupon and leaderboards in Digg. Here's a great overview over game mechanics

I take the same approach of a diversified, low-cost ETF portfolio, but a different allocation than you have. Googling for "lazy portfolio" is a good starting point to find out more about this. In general, I prefer to think about "saving for

IE8 has actually never worked for me since it came out. It takes forever to start up and gets stuck loading any page so I never get beyond a white screen. IE9 can only be a step forward.

I'm very curious to try this out. I didn't use Twitter until I discovered Tweetie, since the website was just too much manual labor. The UI is such a crucial piece of the Twitter experience so I hope this will be a nice, big boost for Twitt

Erosion of trust due to lack of user control is the only real issue I see outside of guesses like "people will get tired of it". The way Facebook connects data and people is very clever. There is lot going on behind the scenes that you neve

I do agree with this in some points. My main complaint with US universities (from my experience) is lack of focus on producing the brightest people possible. It's simply too easy to be "undecided" for 3 years and end up with a wishy-washy d

How about pulling off what OXO did? They realized their products cut be copied and sold at a cheaper price. So they created their own competition. Just made a worse design, used cheaper materials, slapped on a new brand and put both lines o

Great to hear that they have a solid team of advisors and that they are putting the user experience first. With open-source I am always a bit concerned that design and experience are secondary. Diaspora has a great story going on right now,

I actually think Facebook has a decent grip of this spam problem. Your news feed doesn't show you all the events that happen, only a limited set. They figure out which people you interact with more, which updates get more attention, etc and
