The focus on the yellow phone is an unfortunate decision. The bright yellow creates extreme contrast with the black frame and background, and the white icons are barely visible.

A lawn mover still has cost after the initial purchase. You need to buy oil and gas, fix minor issues, etc, and at some point it dies and you need to buy a new one. Similarly, software needs to be maintained. Except, somebody else maintains

Google's habit of killing off versions of Android before they're dead is also inconvenient. But I guess it's easier to rip on Appple.

I think there's a point at which people simply stop caring about the details and follow their gut. If you were to try to find the best deal for every grocery item you purchase, you'd spend a lot of time comparing prices per unit/weight, and

Now what happens if other sites and apps do the same? Will our address books change every day and contacts fill up with dozens of unused email addresses? Many of Facebook's growth techniques have been imitated by other startups so going int

Travel search will be a problem for me once I don't have to call each airline individually to get the best ticket prices for my two-year old. Discounts for children exist, but they vary based on airports, airlines, ticket type, and most air

The simplicity of the metro design style is a great direction. It's in a way a forced simplicity which can minimize the UI clutter we have come to know from Microsoft. But reducing elements means that the few that you have should be as refi

This post is very difficult to understand, so here's my attempt at a simpler explanation. At some point in a project, somebody has to sit down, read through all the content and organize it. They have to gather all the information from the v

Perception is reality, and this applies to the smallest details. For example, most apps use a rotating circle spinner to indicate that it's busy doing something. The speed at which the circles rotate can make you feel like the app is workin

The designer of Clippy gave a speech at ROFLCon a few years ago and gave some insight into how Clippy came about. There's a video of it here http://blip.tv/roflcon/it-looks-like-you-are-giving-a-keynot...

I just talked to a friend about this. We both stopped using the app because it takes 10 seconds from tapping the app icon to seeing content on our HTC Incredibles. During that time I see 3 differently designed loader circles. The app UI is

Reducing design to pure visual style is similar to reducing programming to writing lines of code. Neither is enough to create a useful, engaging product. Neither nice code nor nice style in itself means that your product is good. I assume t

"The details are not details, they make the product" - Charles Eames One my favorite quotes on design. And as you pointed out, details are key to make something outstanding.

My approach to avoid this is to not have a development or staging server. Just a live site. That's what I work on at the beginning. It's always out there, so there are no excuses. And it keeps your focus on the user experience.
