Some time ago after realising how GraphQL (don't) use http code, I decided that I wouldn't use http code for business logic like everybody does, but let that responsibility only to the webserver (not auth 401, not found 404, excep

I've used PHP for many years, but decided to stop in 2018 for my sanity. Surprised it has basic pattern matching now, it is good for people to stop using imperative and mutable code where it isn't needed. Anyway, since I started t

No, because PHP was not designed at all, it was just a hack that solved some problems and started to evolve. Anyway, web development in '95 is not the same thing as today.

I prefer to use languages in the domains they were designed for, and I think it's almost impossible to a general purpose language, or a system programming language, to be better in a domain-specific language that was designed with the

I am impressed modern languages haven't adopted 1-indexed array. This was a design mistake from BCPL and C.

The same. In the last 5 years my programming skills improved a lot. But my design (in)ability stayed the same.

Would a type safe language solve this kind of crash? What caused it?

Community driven libraries APIs are a mess, look at React Native or Js in general. I'd rather a (group of) specialist to develop the API.

Is it a deeper rabbit hole than FP? Could you give some links or good array language names?

In my current job I use Node/Koa with Js, and I am not happy with it. Every side project that I start I use Elixir, and I plan working with it next year, or maybe with Clojure. It's not exactly what I was looking for, but while I

I really liked Crystal some years ago, even used in a prototype. Soon I realized that despite its cute syntax and good performance, coming from Elm, I would prefer a simpler language with type safety, good error messages and very fast compi

I can't understand. People says that ST ecosystem is much superior to nowadays languages, so why people at that time switched to the starter version of java, that is so bad compared to today? After the shift, did you miss something?

It's about trade off. A language that keep getting new features every year, will make some users happy, but will lose compiler speed and it will be harder to learn.

Humanitarian cause would be preserving the national language and having an international one that is easy for everyone to learn, and Esperanto works great.

Esperanto has more than 100 thousand fluent speakers (lower levels are in the millions) and more than 2000 native speakers. Klingon is not even close to esperanto.

I can't believe people are still complaining about something that happened almost 2 years ago for a good reason, or even about Elm not having typeclasses, or worst, for elm-format using 4 spaces, that is pointless. And I personally pre

Scala and Haskell are complex because it's creators wanted that way, not because they are typed FP. Take a look at Elm, it's very simple and clean syntax.

There is no purpose of having a so complicated language - like c++ or java - that the majority of the programmers don't even know 100% of the language. I think Elm (and somehow Go) fits this category, everyone can learn in less than a
