I've done a few things with workers years ago - and I remember thinking "someone is going to make the socket.io of workers someday, because this is verbose!". I think this delivers! I've had an idea for a fun little JS g

Replacing the functions that required the older version of glibc might seem trivial, but I've seen countless devs beat their head against the wall trying to get conflicting NPM packages to work for what is essentially the same problem.

> Squash merge has the major disadvantage of getting rid of valuable meaningful git history. I think the main point of the article is that the Git history is often *not* valuable (because it's hard to enforce good commit messages).

I've never been into Goodreads or similar sites much, but my wife definitely has and reads a lot. She has switched over to The Story Graph and has really liked it (minus the lack of friends that are present). https://www.th

Sorry you are correct - I should have been more specific in my wording. We should give people an educated choice. With unknown side effects we are not doing that. Thank you for pointing that out.

I guess I wasn't being specific - good correction. Reporting medical side effects can easily lag with new treatments, especially when we're not sure what we're looking for. I suspect that, as soon as we start looking for blo

Yeah and we only just started to roll this vaccine out - so it's fair to say that the risk will likely grow beyond that. You're right that 7 / 7,000,000 are good odds, and most people would likely take them - but it would be

The diagram alone is more than enough of an argument to dissuade me from giving this a shot right now - it's simply too complicated and too much to manage for the amount of time I can dedicate to it. BUT - I'm really thankful for

A docker container works for services - but CLI tools are more easily shipped as binaries. It certainly isn't that interesting for everyone, but for a subset of users it's great!

In node.js there are quite a few packages that do exactly this - it's a great pattern and forces you to define which env values you will rely on in one place, rather than dripping them all over your codebase.

The built-in Typescript support is amazing, but the selling feature for me was the ability to generate static binaries. Shipping is much easier when your built process can produce a single output!

For the sake of every parent of a child under the age of 5 - please pass this. Twice a year we have to spend an entire week slowly shifting sleep schedules in the hopes of a successful switch. :)

Neat! This solves a problem for me with generating slides that include code snippets. I'm sure it helps with social media images and whatnot as well. It'd be great if you could also get a HTML snippet to embed into a site that

I guess the only thing you would gain then is the ability to have circular dependencies - or some other pattern nested in your application. Right? That was super helpful - thanks for explaining! I'm still lost as to what the advantage

I find using ES Modules in Node.js to be full of gotchas and anti-patterns - sticking with CommonJS seems more functional in most cases. 1: With ES Modules, imports are asynchronous. Synchronous imports are incredibly powerful. You can ens

This same pattern happened last week - Webhooks reporting issues, then Pull Requests, etc. This one seems to be affecting the rest of their systems a bit more (or maybe they're just being a bit more detailed in exactly what is down th

My experience with 4k has essentially been that it's too small for the display sizes I want to have on my desk - and the fractional scaling support is always quite a bit of work to get right (as evidenced by this post). I've found

That's not totally true... They've sold Chromebooks in US markets with Exynos (though I'm not sure how recently they refreshed that lineup). I'm not sure about the mobile market though.

Seems like a great starting point to get a GPU driver in the kernel and be off to the races with an ARM laptop for Linux. Maybe vendors like System76 are watching and waiting for opportunities to test the market with a product like this.

I used to play this game but realized pyenv / nvm / etc. are all just anti-patterns nowadays. Use docker ( or some other containerized solution ) to run code in your local directory in a specific environment. I think the author i
