Muting is fine, blocking is censorship. You'll know it is decentralized when someone can run an instance and remove the blocking and censorship. (Never, I predict)

Having looked at a lot of these platforms, only Hive (formerly Steem) operates in a properly decentralized manner.

I believe Ledger already leaked customers' addresses. https://www.bitdefender.com/en-au/blog/hotforsecurity/hacker... Probably the most dangerous and costly data leak ever. Can't believe Ledger was

I'm seeing a pattern of misleading headlines wrt this. My guess is that it is PR at work to convince public that FTX was a victimless crime - this is to help SBF avoid his full sentence.

Apple products are a status purchase. Half the value comes from reminding other people that you have them. Very little opportunity for that with this new device.

A law requiring hardware manufacturers to allow owners to run any software on their device would solve a lot of these Apple problems over time. Thats the root of the problem. Apple has a monopoly on the social status associated with their d

I've long suspected that some excess alcohol consumption is a disguised form of overeating. It's socially acceptable for men to have a few beers in a way that it's not acceptable for them to have a few icecreams. I can well s

Didn't CZ recently bring down SBF. The same SBF who was defrauding cypto investors and handing out their money to democrat politicians. The same SBF who got kid gloves treatment from the democrat NYT? CZ is one of the better guys in cr

This feels a bit like the Alex Jones moment. Start with the most outrageous examples... But it won't be 12 months before they're charging perfectly decent people.

Sounds a little like an early version of Flash. Size comparisons to SVG after compression would be interesting too as most Web assets will be delivered compressed.

Other networks can be opinionated about which transactions are valid, whereas Nostr relays will forward any transactions right now.

Somethings a blockchain gives you - timestamp + cost per transaction + completeness. Not required, but Nostr has to find an alternative solution to all these issues.

It's using SHA256 hashing - so ASICs spammers will easily outcompete handhelds or even desktops. It'll need to upgrade to a more CPU friend hash like RandomX for this to have a chance of working.

Yes, interoperability between multiple interfaces is ideal. However federation can break this interoperability because the conversation can be fractured by instance owners. Decentralization with strong user-selected filters is the ideal mod

Bitclout's main flaw is that it is not decentralized. It's also difficult to move a userbase because of network effects.

This is a solution to Twitter's problems, not a solution that helps users. The crucial question is 'Will Twitter actually adopt it?' - if so, we'll all need to pay attention. If not, it can be safely ignored.
