When you say "built in Flutter", does that mean there is no backend? How does it get updated with new gifts?

Interesting. Twitter probably has no inflow of USDC, right? So it will have to buy it for dollars. Which will create demand for USDC. And Polygon is probably a second layer solution based on Ethereum, so indirectly, this will create demand

He says he had hundreds of users and hosting costs were a problem. This made me curious how this could be. Testing SSL for a few hundred users should pretty much free these days. He said Patreon pledges paid for 25% of hosting. So I looked

It is amusing that in Europe, there is this big DGPR drama playing out about websites embedding resources from US companies. Like Google Fonts, Tweets and Facebook like buttons. Yet the browser sends each and every website the user visits t

Thought experiment: What if we just continue like we did in the last two decades? Would there be any real harm if we simply returned to the pre "cookie banner world" of the internet?

Lets talk about startups first: An indie dev in New York does not care about the GDPR. The just build cool shit and put it online. Look at all the Show HNs here. In the EU, the situation is very different. Indie devs are super afraid and wo

That sounds very theoretical. I witness the journey of several German startups for a while now and get a very different picture. Many of the most powerful web tools are not compatible with the GDPR. Google Analytics. Ad marketplaces. Free C

Dumb money is not the basis for the web as we know it. Look at where we are communicating here. On a US website built by a single person.

Regulating local companies is making things only worse. That is the reason why all of Europe depends on foreign tools in the first place. It is a similar death spiral to how we deal with the housing problem. People have a hard time finding

One reason the EU missed out on the internet is our unlimited willingness to be regulated. And we keep piling more and more bureaucracy on top of it. This only cements the power of US big tech like Google and Facebook. And it sets the stage

I run a website with a few hundred thousand monthly active users. I get tons of mails from users telling me how much they love it. One unintrusive, smallish Adsense banner pays for everything. For years now, everyone was happy. Now Google s

First of all, GDPR is not about cookies. It is about personal data. And so far, courts have considered the user's IP to be personal data. Since advertisers need to know if you really show their ads, the ads need to send some signal bac

As far as I understand it, "withdraw" here is the withdraw of the consent at a later time. Consent that was previously given. https://gdpr-info.eu/art-7-gdpr/ I don't think it means that when asked for c

"Accept all" and the "Deny all" must be both be the same level of "easy-ness" I think this is not clear until it has been tested in court. Many websites now have two offers: Free with 3rd part ads

I wish there was an open source project for developers to implement those darn consent forms. Adsense offers an automatic consent modal. But the problem with that one is that it not only displays the consent modal but also injects a small
