I've been you, but moved on when I got an iPhone XS from work. PC is still the main device and I don't use the phone for video. Mostly reddit, music, podcast and the occasional picture. Things I do when on the move. The missing he

Honestly my experience is basically the opposite: Maintaining a coherent development environment is what makes programming tedious. I'd much prefer to just specify in a dockerfile that I need this compiler, these tools and these env-va

I absolutely agree with OP. I find it annoying that things load like that - even on a gigabit line with a beefy modern CPU. The solution is not to slow everything down to wait for the last thing to be loaded. That UI/UX is getting slow

I guess that could be a form of lossy text compression - where the end result is not completely right (the letters not being completely in the right order) but it's good enough to be able to read the text.

Aren't we already discussing SEC violations here?

I agree. I've been tempted by the Remarkable tablet though.

We recently moved _away_ from split tunneling. It's still giving me headaches. Not just performance, but things like docker containers don't always work right.

One way to bin it would be: Macbook -> iPad -> iPhone -> Apple TV

Thanks for providing this valuable resource. Out of curiosity: It seems like the communication protocol that's used is RTP and RTCP. And it seems that these work quite well for video and audio streaming. However what if I want to do re

Potentially. However that also leaves a larger attack-surface, in the sense that more patches = even more scrutiny. Conceivably such a scheme would require all parts to be included (I mean, why make it larger than necessary?), so it would b

What's the loan situation down there? :-)

It's a little bit more complicated than I let on. Loan is structured in 2 parts: Bankloan and mortgage. Mortgage is at roughly 0% and has a fixed payment for the duration - I cannot pay it differently than the initial agreement. The ba

Pretty standard rate in Denmark these days. Everyone can get it. Fixed rate 30 year loan is at 0.5%. Variable rate loans (what I have) is at -0.63%. I just rounded it to 0%.

For what it's worth I live in Denmark, working a private sector full time (37/week, usually less) job with a nice salary - though nothing out of the ordinary for my education and experience. Came from a middle class family: My mom

I'm in the process of doing so. We had some issues with it initially but it seemed that it got better since a couple of updates ago. I vastly prefer it to having to ship mdnsresponder alongside my application though. I'm basing my

I believe that's deprecated. The right thing to do - though very well hidden - is to use device enumeration: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/uwp/devices-sensors... This uses mDNS under the hood

There's a big difference between ghosting and sending a mail informing you that the process has stopped. I realize I'm missing some context here, but I can't see how your life would work out better from _not_ receiving a head

I've done exactly that. I had some issues with WSL but WSL2 does what I need it to do. Specifically what I need it to do is cross-compile the linux kernel (among other things) for embedded devices. This works flawlessly. Almost all my

For what it's worth I've been pretty happy with Freescale. Not sure how they are now after NXP bought them, but the documentation of that hardware was the best I had seen. This translated into an easier time for me as a software g

That was my thinking as well. I honestly hated the lack of headphone jack. After getting an iPhone XS from work - replacing my iPhone 5 - I found that I would actually just leave the adapter on my headset. If I ever used the headset for any

This is an interesting post, definitely! However, as it was posted in 2012 I feel like some of his concerns have been addressed in newer versions of C++. Instead of having a Constructor + init method you could have a static create function

Someone else linked https://tailscale.com in this thread. Could that be similar to what you're looking for? I haven't dug fully into but definitely will later today.

Certainly is to me! I build embedded Linux devices. Our current boottime from cold-boot to fully functioning is roughly 3 seconds. I would really like to get it lower and shaving off almost half a second would be amazing.

For gaming it think it's somewhat true that we may reach a visual limit at some point. However for other applications it's not the same thing. I work in medical 3D imaging - we are constantly memory constrained.
