I definitely agree that the over-specialization of emoji faces is ridiculous. However, one question has occurred to me: what has the actual consequence of the skin-tone-modifier been on real-world emoji use? The answer, in my experience,

Completely agree -- the magic of SIM cards is that they allow you to quickly switch providers. I find it ridiculous that people are clamoring for eSIMS, which as you point out is not moving forward, but moving backward to the old CDMA days

Yeah, I also immediately thought of Project Cybersyn when I read this post. On the other hand, Allende's vision for Chile would probably be better described as a democratic-socialist one than a "communist state" one.

Honestly, given how badly literally every town/city/municipality here in California is run, I say let Google take over for a while. Maybe we'll at least get decent public transit systems.

I believe they did -- from what I've read back in the day it was quite common for Google to demand college transcripts from all applicants, even seasoned professionals.

Absolutely, and this is also the problem with every* other basic income study that's been conducted over the past few decades. If you promise basic income for only 5 years, then I'm probably not going to quit my job and become an

I remember way before Electron there was XULRunner, and there were a few ridiculously bloated non-Mozilla apps that were based on it. Like Songbird[1] -- anyone remember that? I suppose the idea was largely ahead of its time; in 2006 comput

100% this. I solely use the unofficial AnkiDroid port because it's leagues beyond the awful desktop app. Somewhat related: a lot of its horribleness comes from the fact that the UI is written with QT, which is equally horrible for Wind
