Your use of the colonial word "Ganges" to refer to the river Ganga betrays your coloured view of that part of the world.

I like nim for the same reason (and use for for small programs), though I'm using D at $work because D is more "mainstream" and established at this time.

A few languages that generate C that are currently popular are: * nim * Vala (GObject backend) * Purescript (technically it has a C++ backend, but it is worth mentioning here for the very clean C++ it produces!)

IIRC, this was a high performance scheme developed at Indiana University that was closed source for a long time. Good on Cisco for open sourcing it. I'm interested to hear what regular scheme programmers feel about this news.

Generating PDF is not the same as typesetting.

The problem with LaTeX is that you are given an already unstable jinga (ie., style file etc.,). You can always go back to the basics and use simple TeX for your documents if you think groff/troff is simpler. However, I'd encourage

I skimmed through their manual.. ConTeXt does all of this better, and has been doing this for longer.

Ruby is used for tooling and is not at the heart of the typesetting programs themselves.

I wish I could answer this.. but I'm a Mac and Linux user. with the new "Bash for windows", it will hopefully get easier in future.

many scientific and tech publishing houses have their own LaTeX styles (eg: MIT, nostarch).

LaTeX's selling point is, it allows someone(publisher, conference committee, school, professor) to set what is acceptable typesetting and rest of us can focus on the content. ConTeXt is excellent if you care about design -- visual, l

As a typesetting aficionado, I have tried most of the suggestions here (Prince, Troff, Lout, Docbook XML, Asciidoc, LaTeX, ConTeXt, .. except GUI typesetting tools.) TeX appears bad from a distance, mostly from hearsay, until you have to wr

No. If you are already comfortable in PgSQL, there is no need to use SQLite. You will see PostgreSQL will come in handy once you get beyond the initial import stage.. PostgreSQL's type system will come to your aid . SQlite essentially

I'm not the poster, but having tried my hands at both D and rust, I chose D over for my new project at $work. There is far less upfront mental gymnastic with D compared to Rust and that is a nice benefit when you are trying to get thin
