They're both going to be fine for web development. Look at the languages and see which you prefer. Look at the frameworks (Laraval and Django) and see which you prefer. I've gone with Python because I needed a CMS (Wagtail) built

I use Wagtail CMS for my sites. It’s the best CMS I have found so far. It’s built on Django. Instead of looking for plugins you just integrate with other services with Python libraries or standard REST calls. It has something similar to Gut

Generally Rails is more powerful than Django though they have a similar set of features. If you are making a webapp I would go with Rails or Rails API. If you are making a website with some webapp functionality I would go with Django and Wa
