Gerrymandering, campaign finance, first past the post, and the electoral college have all ensured that my votes account for precisely fuck-all.

No, because it isn't reasonable. What would be reasonable is for the individual receiving the call to excuse themself leaving the rest of the meeting to carry on. Isn't this already the standard?

But it is GAFAM, which seems to be more relevant when you're looking at things from an overall size perspective. The focus on FAANG never made much sense to me.

Heads-up, looks like you might be shadow banned, you may want to reach out to the mods to see why.

I'd rather work on building alternatives that respect their users than pay corporations to abuse me, thanks.

Still sounds potentially problematic. Per wikipedia: "Differential privacy provides a quantified measure of privacy loss and an upper bound and allows curators to choose the explicit trade-off between privacy and accuracy. It is robust

Just a heads-up, it looks like your account might have been shadowbanned? You last few comments were all dead, as well as this one when I first saw it. Looks like someone else may have already vouched for it though.

Stable load is better for GPU longevity than cycling between hot and cold repeatedly. Also, lots of mining farms will undervolt their cards for more efficiency. Getting a used mining card is probably better than getting one from a gamer.

Everything I've read has stated that even if you ran your EV off of a grid powered entirely by coal you still come out with less carbon output than ICE (after about 6 years of use). Do you have citations? Edit for a quick citation for

...isn't that 30x? Also, I saw it listed as 500Wh/kg from the article, where was the 400 figure coming from? At 500Wh/kg, it's about 24x the energy density. Also the NASA paper was published a year ago, and the article l

A quick search tells me that plastics account for around 4-5% of oil production, so I don't think this is going to be the safety net for the industry that it might look like at first.

Whatever happened to Privacy Pass? I seem to recall it being touted as the solution for maintaining privacy but keeping bot traffic out, but I haven't heard anything about it in probably five years or so. I'm also not understandin

I had to vouch for your comment, I'm guessing because it's a new account? Might be something to keep an eye out for in case it continues happening. Edit: Looking at your comment history, maybe that was a mistake.

Great question, I have no idea. I wish the nationwide 55mph speed limit were reinstated, if only to reduce oil consumption. Added bonus that it might actually encourage more public transit and walkable cities. Nobody will take this idea ser

As is stated in the link I posted, you don't have to run your own bridge. With snowflake, there are more entry nodes than ever, and you don't need to know anything about them in advance.

Last time I tried to throw it on an old box it couldn't handle it due to the lack of IOMMU. Granted this was like... 5 or so years ago? I think my newer laptop could probably handle it, so maybe it would be worth giving another shot.

Your definition of accessible reminds me of Cave Johnson. "Bean counters said I couldn't fire a man for being in a wheelchair. Did it anyway. Ramps are expensive."
