The fall of WebOS (like BeOS) makes me wonder if the tech world is primed for duopolies. Somehow I feel there are parallels in Windows/Linux, Java/.Net, React/Vue etc.

I distinctly remember the Autumn day of 2011 when we stood in the line of the local Best Buy in West Des Moines to grab one of these. It was miles ahead of anything that was in the market that time. It could do multitasking and had a lovely

Building a web browser. I once took a stab at Ladybird browser but had to back out due to the complexity of its build chain. I couldn’t get it run on Xcode/CLion on macOS but would love to give it a try once again. Does anyone have any

Zig is nothing like Go. Go uses GC and a runtime while Zig has none. While Zig’s functions aren’t coloured, it lacked the CSP style primitives like goroutines and channels.

I recently, for fun, tried running zig on an ancient kindle device running stripped down Linux 4.1.15. It was an interesting experience and I was pleasantly surprised by the maturity of Zig. Many things worked out of the box and I could eve

Love the wonderfully detailed report. Getting it tested and signed off by Jepsen is such a huge endorsement for TigerBeetle. It’s not even reached v1.0 and I can’t wait to see it hit new milestone in the future. Special kudos to the founder

Friendster would be a great hit with the millennials. They had fond memories of that era and they’re done with the current social media trends. If you succeed with that niche, you might have a better chance.

How does Armbian compare to DietPi? FWIW: I’m running dietPi on my OG Pi Zero W and it doesn’t even hit 30% resource usage.

Great comment, thank you for sharing it. I’ve seen some of it in Garhwal where villages didn’t get proper attention by the Govt. We keep forgetting that states in India are akin to states in Europe. A modern version of Gram Swaraj combined

There’s a difference between casteism and jātivada which is not easy to explain in a short comment. Ambedkar’s “ Annihilation of Caste” and A.M. Hocart’s works provide interesting insight on it.

TBH Dr. Ambedkar’s Buddhism is very different from what the other traditions preach. It was an answer to the prevailing jātivada, but unfortunately it didn’t manage to make the dent he envisioned. I’ve grown up around Navayana and have many

I personally found this very tedious to read and hard to follow. The author veered into weird unrelated tangents and came across of too self indulgent at times. I would rather read Seneca or Cicero instead of this.

It’s a common trope among urban Indians. They’re enamoured by the simple and rustic living of the villages and think of them as noble savages. I grew up in rural India and I always recommend people to read Dr. Ambedkar’s rights on this subj

I bought an HP Touchpad in the $99 fire sale and I still have it. The UX was so far ahead of its time that I was blown away by it. It’s still chugging along without hiccups. I miss the days of such lovely and unique devices.

Author here: Thanks for the suggestion. I do have a wifi smart plug and I can take a look at this near trick. So far it's easier to charge it once a month as it runs fine for 2-3 weeks in one charge.
