I have 12GB of RAM and Lion runs like crap on my iMac 2.93GHz i7. It's like the system discards pages of programs just because the app has been inactive for an hour or so. So when I come back and start the same app the f*cking rotating HD I

I once read an article about HP making an interpreter of PA-RISC running on a PA-RISC CPU that was faster than the real thing. IIRC it was due to better cache locality.

As an old C64 hacker that implemented several sprite multiplexers I can write more about the difficulties they had. First, the characters used one multicolored sprite(which gives you double-width pixels), and on top of that sprite they put

The idea is cool, but I must say the app itself gives me the same feeling I get from Microsofts Expression Blend app. Or any Silverlight app for that matter. Non-native UI controls everywhere. :-/

I played HaloPC, HL2 and TF2 in Crossover and the performance and correctness was not good.

Before Steam was released for Mac I used Crossover a lot. But the performance was maybe half of the performance in Bootcamp plus loads of graphical bugs. And in some games(HaloPC) the mouse pointer was so bad the game was unplayable. Appare

If there are no cost of overtime, I think the company lack a feedback on how well planning, estimation and execution do. With no feedback there are less reason to change the company for the better.

Ok, thank you. I was thinking of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hidden_variable_theory and that those could be properties of particles skewed into extra dimensions. This is way over my math and physics skill, but it's still very fascinating

"According to IBM, 250 qubits would be able to store “more bits of information than there are atoms in the universe.” This in itself is truly awesome — but then when you factor in that a quantum computer could perform logic on all of that d

But what is your point? I never meant this to be a MacPorts vs HomeBrew discussion, I've only used HomeBrew. Being downvoted I'm obviously missing something. Care to let me know what it is instead of just downvoting me?

My Deathadder 3G Spawn is of Apple quality. The cable is covered with cloth, not plain plastic. See if there's a newer firmware for your mouse.

I have a Deathadder 3g Spawn and I don't use the Razer drivers. If I look at my mouse in the app "USB Prober" I see OS X uses a 2ms interrupt to poll the mouse. If I'm not completely off that's 500Hz. More than the 125Hz that seems to be de

I play TF2 almost hours every day and I'm often in the top 5 players in the server when I play sniper or soldier. I play in Mac OS X and I use a Razer Deathadder 3G Spawn. No extra drivers. However, I tried wiggling the mouse pointer and I

I'm not a native english speaker, the word "homeland" just seems like a weird choice to me. It feels too patriotic and even a bit fascistic. I can't recall any public discussion about the name when they were created, but then I'm not from

I feel the same about using VS2010 without Resharper. It's barbaric and code quality suffers because cleaning requires manual work. This is why VS2010 Express is not an option. I hope Jetbrains makes their own kick-ass C# coder-style enviro

I think that plain recursive calls that can be TCO'd are not what is interesting about TCO for OO languages... OO without TCO and lambda have a hole in the choices you have to encapsulate and abstract.

I remember one of the PLT Scheme guys talking about how without TCO in OO languages you can't even express state machines without creating new state holder objects. In a way, without TCO you must manually abstract each step and the next one

The recent discovery of planets that seem to be "earth-like" is very exciting. Imagine what the next Kepler and next Hubble would be able to find out about our neighborhood? Imagine if we could tell a planet light-years away was heavily ind

I can't count the number of times people have tried to correct errors in my Visio diagrams because they see bad kerning as if I accidentally included an extra space in the middle of the word. I recently found that one can go into Options in
