The last years I thought that Objective-C was perhaps not future-proof enough when MS pushed .Net more and more into being desktop class. And now MS shows WinRT that is not .Net. Hmmm... :)

Ok, nothing with EMP in TF2 except for some anti-sticky bomb weapon the Engineer use. Looking for TF EMP grenade in Youtube gave me videos of jumpers. You know the demo man can do all that and probably more? How about Jarate? http://www.pl

Single-game guy like me then :) I only play TF2 and some indie-games. Often it's either TF2 or doing something else.

Oh no, you're talking to someone who played HaloPC from summer 2004 to january 2010 and then gave up because of cheaters and lag. Which games do you play these days?

No, I'm 40-ish. I grew up with VIC-20 and C64 being state of the art in home computing. I both played games and programmed stuff. I still do but on computers a zillion times faster. I never liked games that try to be realistic, what's the p

I've only started Team Fortress Classic a few times. It feels really outdated. That said, how can that old game be more fun that TF2? TF2 is shock full of funny sounds, signs, taunts and so on! Watch Meet the Sniper: http://www.youtube.com

I have tried it occasionally, it's nice exercise. Since you mentioned it and I've happened to read about it on reddit I think rowing might be a the exercise for me. I'm going to try it a few times and see how it feels. Thanks for the tip!

I had a standing desk in my previous office and I used it sometimes, not very often, but it helped that I could vary the height even when I'm sitting. A standing desk is ordered to my new office, I don't know when I'll get it though.

I bought an 27" iMac a year ago and really wish Mac OS X had a "dpi slider" like the one in Windows 7. Apple should be ashamed to not have this working by now.

Every time I get more headaches than "normal" I go check my eyes. For the last year I've had neck pain and terrible headaches many times a week and often the whole weekends. Turns out it's not my eyes, it's how I sit, stand and walk. I've t

That's exactly why I threw away any hopes about Espresso, Coda and perhaps even TextMate, to have more than basic non-semantic features and syntax highlighting. Sure they are pretty and Mac native but I want functionality, not eye candy. Ma

I can't find anything about this now, just spent a good 20 minutes searching for it. I guess keywords kqueue, buffer request http are too generic in some sense. :-/ Anyway, the idea was to avoid context switches by waiting/parsing in kernel

IIRC, kqueue can be told to read the whole http-request before letting client know there's data to read.

Even in september 2011 Flash doesn't work well with keyboard and mouse. If you have clicked inside a Flash-box then you can forget using the keyboard shortcuts your web browser offer. Edit: I really think one shouldn't be able to down-vote

I usually get coffee instead of staring at the laptop. But I wonder how big a difference a smarter disk-elevator algorithm would make. Or something that logged file-accesses, made a list of disk-block-no of that, sorted the list, and early

The idea of exceptions is not primarily reading out details from the throw exception object, but to let programmers code the "happy flow" as if errors can not happen. It also makes it easier to let callers further up in the call-chain to se

I've been afraid of this too. I wrote a system in C# that used immutable data and actually used that to do rollbacks when evaluating a scenario failed. My fears was that since there are no "val" and really bad immutable collections in C#+.N

I see what you are saying, but feel that C++ is in a different league than Scala when it comes to why you avoid certain language features. If you don't know exactly what a feature does in C++ you might end up with memory leaks, excessive me
