With my first startup I saved up about $30k, then went into "hotdog mode". This is when you cut your expenses down to the point where your only overhead is hot dogs, tap water, and rent/mortgage/utilities. You have no gas expenses because y

Good for them. I'm closing on a house tomorrow in Denver and I have nothing but contempt for the real estate process. I passed on my first house when I found out the selling agent was trying to collect 2x the fee simply because I didn't hav

The questions feel like tricks to get the entrepreneur to reveal negative information about himself or his company that he wouldn't otherwise reveal. If I were an entrepreneur sitting through a round of questions like these, I would be a bi

Believe me, it's real. I've been on reddit for a long time and I've seen it go from a great site with quality links to kitten pictures and "Vote Up If You H@te Hillary" posts. It's not as bad as most people say, but it's certainly a differe

> "A recession forces [constraints] on a start-up - but those constraints aren’t BAD." A blind person becomes efficient at reading braille and learns to use their hearing in ways I can only imagine. But it still sucks to be blind. Const

Nonsense. The Singularity will happen, it's only a question of when. 20 years at the earliest, 50 at the latest.

Was that meant to be funny? All but one of the points essentially say it's good to start a company in a recession because it's really really hard, and if you somehow manage to survive, you'll end up tougher, leaner, and meaner. Here's a tip

If you go with a Big Powerhouse in a vertical silo, you may learn enough about the business to create a startup. My first startup was based on my 12-month experience at an established software company, where I learned the market and built a

I'm about to use it for serious development. We're planning on using it exclusively so I haven't paid much attention to how well it will integrate with Java. My feeling is that we'll be able to develop a much richer front-end in Silverlight

Anything by Ian M. Banks. His Culture books are about a post-singularity universe where humans and superintelligences live in harmony. I'd recommend starting with Player of Games.

I have a confession. I actually don't listen to anything when I code. I find it all distracting. I'll sometimes put headphones on so people don't bother me, but I never have anything playing.
