The picture Negitivefrags posted shows a similar setup currently in use in New Zealand (although it's a permanent merge instead of temporary construction) http://i.imgur.com/AtaDOGX.jpg

I second this. For a long time I was just using basic Alfred and had ClipMenu installed separately. A couple weeks ago I bought the Power Pack, and its clipboard manager is way better than ClipMenu.

When hiring, I agree that aptitude is probably a better signal than experience. However, I also think aptitude is much harder to assess during an interview. It's pretty easy to look at someone's work history, github, and ask them

Just a nitpick, but applying a command to the whole file can be done faster with ggg?G That also has the benefit of working with plain vi, since vi doesn't support visual mode. I didn't know about the rot13 command. I probably won

f.lux doesn't reduce overall brightness, it reduces the blue end of the spectrum. This makes the screen warmer, and is supposed to be good later at night since blue light specifically is what triggers production of the chemicals that k

Till my senior year of HS, I thought math was easy, but not very interesting. This was basically for the reason you describe -- there's one obvious right answer, and a set of steps you can mechanically apply to reliably get there. When

To be fair, the (real or perceived) opportunities for women and minorities at major tech companies like Google could very well influence the majors college students choose to pursue. If I were an 18 y.o. woman who read news articles or talk

I'm not sure this would be very useful if you're only looking at people who successfully got a job in that field. Let's assume software devs make the comparable salaries regardless of education. It could still be true[0] that

Why do you say that? It seems clear to me it is. Do you disagree that A being caused by B usually means A and B correlated[0]? That's all that's necessary to say correlation is evidence for causation. 0: I know there are some exce

I think what that must mean is: Players 1, 2, and 3 have the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd best hand, respectively. During betting, player 1 folds. Neither player 2 nor 3 fold and eventually show their hands. Thus player 2 wins not by having the best h

In one of the Reactive Programming Scala class on Coursera, one of the teachers said types only need to satisfy 2 of the 3 Monad laws to be useful in for comprehensions (similar to do blocks in Haskell), so it didn't actually matter wh

As someone who both walks and bikes a lot (currently in NYC): Bikes often run lights when they shouldn't, and that's dangerous and shitty. But even more often than that, pedestrians stride out into the intersection against the lig

I agree with core days instead of core hours. The commute can be a big deal. My team at work has de facto core days Tue through Thur, with most people working from home Mon and Fri. I think it's pretty close to an ideal situation.

I thought about that, but I like undefined better. Part of the reason is NaN is of type number[0], and I think a number makes less as a return value for a conditional statement than a general non-value (e.g. undefined or null). Also, if som

I agree it really doesn't make sense to say two NaNs are definitely equal, but it doesn't seem necessarily true that they aren't equal, either. Semantically, I would say NaN == NaN should return undefined (assuming JS here).

MF DOOM is on the list. He's above average, but well below Aes or most of Wu-Tang. I've listened to a fair number of rappers, and I was pretty confident Aes would be at the top of this list. I agree it would be cool to see a list
