Oh, sure, there was more than bountiful in the US and Europe. Saying that it was (or is) bountiful in, say, Africa seems to be a stretch. One could think that GMOs appear to be a US-centered because many developing countries, whose export m

I could point you at pretty much every Mexican construction worker in SV (or Chicago) who bunk 10 to a room, doing hard physical work for less money.

Cynic in me asks what NCMEC would do, if there were no great epidemic of trafficking. And a nice easy target to pin it on. Interestingly, all the examples below talk about grown up Asian women. Not to say that trafficking never happens, or

So we should kill even more people, who had never signed up to be guinea pigs, so that maybe there will be a self-driving car at some point? Which most of those dying in those crashes will not be able to afford anytime soon anyway...

I am not really sure if development of SDVs is really that important, but even if it were, your proposal would only be acceptable if it were you and Mr. Musk racing your Teslas on Tesla's private proving grounds. Somewhere in the Kal

Out of curiosity, how would the prohibition of CFCs work before there were a replacement? Or would that be something like the anti-GMO crowd that feasts on their organic free-range heritage breed quinoa salad while telling people in develop

That's sort of their job, to regulate things. I was gong to say trying to elect people who at least know what they don't know might be a better approach.

Having lived there, I'll take hagiographies of Tom Dart with as many grains of salt as stories of a bright and promising young politician Rod Blagojevich. After all, he had been going against anything sex-related long before he had tho

I have seen quite a few of the same in Chicago as well. It is always hand-wringing over there being internet forums where johns review services, and a lot of assumptions that anyone engaged in prostitution obviously must be trafficked, or

Eh, are you equating, ahem, "sexual services providers" with trafficking victims? For some reason, every major prostitution bust catches quite a few working girls and johns, but actual trafficking victims are few and far between.

Interestingly, it is also apparently quite difficult to find actual trafficking victims, at least in the US.

As I recall, eventually cigarette companies had to pay out quite a bit of money, in the US at least, and now have significant limitations on their advertising activities. Last I checked, smoking rates are dropping pretty much everywhere. An

How would this be different from a purpose of any other company on the face of the Earth? They all exist to make money. And killing off your customers (or poisoning them) is not necessarily a winning long-term strategy.
