As far as I can tell, the problem isn't so much a lack of jobs or a lack of homes but rather that they aren't in the same place. In small town America, the problem isn't a lack of housing stock, it's that it is hard to

I once stayed at an honesty box motel near Hell's Backbone (a road through rough country in rural Utah). There was a basket of keys on the porch and a sign that said, "We're out. Please take a key and leave $20." The p

People desire to bad ads because they are overwhelmed with the quantity of them, especially of the lower value ones which don't do anything for them. It's not the entertaining informative ads for things they want that anger them,

This is the best answer. The area of the plane is 0.0196 m^2, so the heating of 10^5 W/m^2 is actually around 2 x 10^3 W, which seems much more reasonable. Also, I noticed that I missed that the plane is made from 4 sheets of A4 paper

Hmm... the paper plane has an initial kinetic energy of (0.004 kg) * (7800 m/s)^2 / 2 = 121.6 kJ. But it is supposed to experience 10^5 W of heating for several minutes? The atmospheric heating comes from converting the kinetic

You are probably thinking of: "A scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather because its opponents eventually die and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it."

As someone who tried to put together a CVT startup in 2000-2001, that first graph on transmission production share over time makes me feel... damn vindicated. Too bad we missed that opportunity.

I think that a large reason why the discourse sucks is because the public is seeing hardly any discussion using language that is specific about types and features. Let me explain. With older technologies, the language to talk about it is w

Big powerful lasers can actually be quite noisy. Once I was talking on the phone with a friend who was working on one of the big lasers (don't remember which one, but it was in the bay area) and he said,"What? What? I'm so

Does anyone know of any weather sites which show the actual outcomes? It is very easy to find forecasts. It is quite difficult to find what the weather actually was on a given day at a location, but at least it is possible. I have never

It's nice to see this book referenced! I am proud to have two old copies of the book in my personal library, one from 1880 and the other with no date on it. Prescott was an ancestor of mine, and the copies were passed down.
