Google got Java libraries for most of their APIs, and for developing over App Engine. Blackberry and Android got mini Java sdk for developing movile apps. Or if you want to develop over Cloud Computer systems you might want to give it a try

The issue is that it should be an extension for your app, not a rule. I think, that the best way is to always do you own auth system and maybe improve it using OpenId providers.

Well, it's easier for user to register a page in an usual manner, why? Well, because they have been doing this all the time. In a startup I'm working on, we forced user to use a Google Account to login, then I ran a usability test on my mom

Since I use Ubuntu, I'm using encfs to encrypt single folders. You just have to mount the encrypted folder into a visible how. There is a how-to: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FolderEncryption There you can find a method to also encry
