You should find a job closer to home, or move out. 2h of commute is savage. I don't accept more than 1h commute total per day, or ask for remote to compensate.

I did not mean microservice as in "just make it many apps!". I meant as do not share databases and expose everything as APIs. It helps cognitive load because such apps can be reasoned about without reading code elsewhere.

I believe, for small shops, the real benefit of microservices is the logic split that forces good design and reduces cognitive load. You reap the scaling benefits way later, if ever.

The issue is right there: previous immigrants in France hardly assimilated, so when a new wave comes in, without change in the country there is no reason for them to assimilate either.

Using it as well, pretty simple to setup & dockerization-friendly.

Yes, that is why Apple released the new MBP, with a touchbar perfectly aligned with what users desperately wanted.

Well he makes a really good point, did we really get to the point where we have so many unskilled workers in the force that recommendations about NOT doing something because it requires skilled labor to do is legitimate? I share the sentime

I find firefox to be faster and less hungry than before as well. And let us not forget about the privacy killer-feature. Also if you find firefox to be slow, try it with addons disabled (firefox --safe-mode).

I did an extensive lookup of dropbox alternatives last year, and ended up self-hosting seafile. Multiple family members use it and it works great, plus encryption built-in from day one (me not being able to read their stuff is critical to m

Git is the reference implementation of a protocol, and much like HTTP, you must learn it the hard way if you intend to be a professional in the domain. The mistake is to believe there is a U<I|X> in the first place. It does not, howev

One argument that has good traction lately around me is data privacy. It remains the killer argument of Firefox against Chrome. What's old is new again.

Does it only bug me that with the addition of cold storage on the card, GPUs scream of poor design? If I was rewriting the same-ish REST helper on every micro-service of a project, I would immediately think of refactoring and yet GPUs now h

I think it is the accumulation of people not wanting to learn something new (fear of the unknown), managers not knowing about it (misaligned agendas) and executives wanting the peace of mind of knowing the job will be done (because it has b

I think of Dockerfiles as a very static piece of code, it urges you to use templates on it. Just like for a nginx.conf And 100LOC, well, I've gotten very much used to bash. It is so comfortable when the terminal is your REPL. To tell y

2 does not work for many scenarios. You end up having to build all the FROM combinations which quickly grows out of practicality. 3. use any templating system you like For example, I make mixins out of little bash scripts (mostly heredocs)

That's because Intellisense is not about regexp matching. Consider how in Emacs there are usually simple packages for a language (say, ruby-mode), and complex ones for live-analysis (say, robe).

The Agile problem goes deeper than that. In a perfect world, it works as other comments point out: you get better at it, and everything is wonderful. In real life, that estimate you gave last week becomes your duty. Unless you pinpointed it

So when you need to do heavy lifting, you just give up because all you got is a tablet? Besides, as far as programming goes, I'm happy I got all the power I can find to iterate quickly, and tablet != power.
